Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tour takes about 50 minutes while walking around the mall to various locations. Most of the info is provided via the free headset you receive.
Fascinating info about the Irish Workhouse System (poor houses) in the mid to late 1800’s.
I have ancestors who died in these workhouses so it was especially poignant.

The experience to understand the horrors of the workhouse and the famine is inside theMac Donagh Junction Shopping Centre. The AV tour device leads you through the centre to find where the main parts were. The strange disconnect is watching 21st century people walking with take away coffee and food whilst listening to the tales of starvation and disease of the 19th Century. If it was intended to make people realise how comparatively well-off we now are it hits the spot.

The mass grave of 970 poor souls and how it was examined to discover their fates was astonishing. They will not now be forgotten. Young children may find it distressing I would imagine.

A great self-guided tour. Picked up the audio units and we were given all the help we needed. Did to at our own pace...our 9 yr old had no trouble taking it all in. Followed the route around and listened to the interesting facts about Kilkenny workhouse during Famine times. It is such a sad story hearing about the Saul brothers. Visited The Memorial Garden on the way out and it brought me to tears.

A short & sweet very poignant & educational experience about an often forgotten history. If you find yourself at the shopping centre, take a moment to do the tour. Plus, it's free.

A rainy day in Kikenny and we stopped by the customer service desk in Macdonagh Junction Shopping Centre and we decided to do the Famine Experience Tour which turned out to be really informative and enjoyable as we walked around finding the different points of interest in the shopping center. The self guide was a combination of audio and videos which was interesting and informative. The children enjoyed the tour and honestly it passed away approximately 50/60 mins. Its definitely worth doing if you were in the shopping center. We would have loved to see more things at the points of interest.

Mostly audio tour (like a short audio book) exhibit in a mall. There are a series of interest points keyed to an Audio that you receive at the beginning of the tour. There isn’ much to actually see because the workhouse was largely destroyed and/or modified in the mall construction. The boys exercise yard was the only thing vaguely like the original. There are some videos in addition to the audio. Mostly we just sat and listened to one segment and then watched the next. Not a must see. Good narration.

We really enjoyed the Famine Experience. The guide was great, informative and the actors on the ship were engaging and funny in bringing awareness to the famine and life on the ship. I would highly recommend. We also had lunch in the little café upstairs.

I really liked the way the story of the 2 brothers was interwoven throughout the story line.

The tour was very very moving and actually affected me for several days after.

I know that it may be difficult, but I would live to hear what became of some of the people.
Happy or sad ending, they need to be remembered
