Interesting audio and video tour of the harder times in the Victorian workhouse, the former site of which now houses the shopping centre.
Often sad but an important reminder of how the poor were treated not so long ago. Highly recommended.

All was very interesting and very well made.
Nice videos and commentary.
Small audio/video screen was good to watch and understand even without headphones.

The multimedia guide brings to life the reality of the Irish famine and the cruelty of the workhouse system. I would recommend the tour to anyone visiting
Kilkenny. I would like to thank the security guard who took the time to provide us with additional information on the excavation and the discovery of the mass grave. It was a very enjoyable conversation. The link between the 59 young orphans from the workhouse who emigrated to Australia and the photographs of their descendants who came to visit made it more poignant.

Loved all the information and the way it was laid out. Only negative was sometimes it was difficult to hear because of all the noise in the shopping centre

Very interesting! Totally worth a stop in Kilkenny to go through the stations. So glad they preserved this important piece of history.

Really enjoyed this experience. It was a great way to spend an hour before we left Kilkenny after our few days visiting. The content was very well put together and informative. The shopping centre was the workhouse, so the tour is predominately in or around that, but although there aren't many artefacts to see, except perhaps for the walls it is still very well put together and I would definitely recommend.

A great self guided tour with plenty of information given on the audiovisual aid given as part of the tour. A tragic history on the doorstep of a beautiful city. Definitely worth checking out this free experience

The Kilkenny Famine Experience was very interesting. We were sorry we hadn't gotten the earphones as the music over the PA system made it hard to hear.
Very strange to think all that happened where the shopping centre now stands.

Well done to the management in MacDonagh Junction for preserving the history of this important site of the workhouse in Kilkenny. The mass burial site and the memorial to those that died there was very moving and the story of the Saul brothers was very engaging. We chose to sit on a bench and listen and watch rather than move around the centre, but this is a worthwhile, moving experience and excellently prepared material.

very informative audio visual tour, a bit different from the usual tour as it takes place through a large shopping complex and you do the tour electronically, but its free and is well worth doing, it is very informative.
