Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After ten years of owning a B&B in killarney and recommending this tour hundreds of times, our family finally got the chance to do this tour. Of course we only wanted to do the tour with the best guys in town. So hence we choose the O Donoghue family, the Dux. Thank you so much to them. We were a group of 9, ages 4 years to 40+. The patience and the enthusiasm from the Dux family was unbelievable. Being a local I didn't expect to learn anything. But the knowledge I learned from Donal dux regards to ecology to geography, history, environmental awareness etc was unbelievable. Also what a guy for the kids everyone got a chance to drive the boat for a photo op. He was exceptional with the kids. Actually unbelievable. We were blown away with his kindness. They absolutely loved it. We are steadily organizing the next trip now with other families.

The tour was way more informative than I expected. Their knowledge of the history and ecology of the land is mind blowing. The tour was filled with lots of laughter as well as nonstop information about the surrounding area. Such a beautiful way to spend the day. You’d be foolish not to go.

Wow, what a crew! Dux was Johnny-on-the-Spot in making sure we got where we needed to be without hardly a wait and was super informative on local hiking opportunities. Rory was a friendly and knowledgeable boat guide, making sure we were well cared for on our tour across the lakes. A kind and professional team that made it well worth the fare.

Walking the Gap of Dunloe with a boat ride back to Ross Park was a perfect vacation day for us. The “trail” is a 7 K paved road that is shared w hikers, bikers, jaunting cars and tourist cars. Walking it is experiencing the weather and beauty of Ireland , and the boat ride back with story-telling Bob continued the experience. Bring a raincoat if the forecast is at all iffy. To complement the tour and understand how walking is a part of life in Ireland , read This Is Happiness by Niall Williams:)

We had a great day trip. We took the bus from Ross Castle to Kate Kearneys Cottage en took an amazing hike to Lord Bransons Lodge. There we had a cup of coffee and continued our trip with Dux' boat. The views are amazing en Dux had enormous knowledge about Killarney National Park, which he brings with a sense of humour.

The absolute highlight of the trip! We had bikes children and a dog aboard including all the adults and it was a laugh a minute. Dux is a gem and his laugh needs to be bottled and sold as a tonic.
Highly recommend!

Dux was engaging and fun - he made the whole group of strangers comfortable and entertained. The boat tour was definitely a highlight of our trip. We loved learning more about the area and experiencing the beauty of the national forest while weaving through the lakes.

We booked a tour through Deros Tours that bused us out to Kate Kearney's Cottage, had us hike through the Gap of Dunloe, and then took a boat back to Ross Castle from Lord Brandon's Lodge -- and I'm 99% sure that the boat portion was actually provided by this company. We had Claire as our boat captain and tour guide and she was phenomenal. So passionate and knowledgeable about explaining all that we saw. We asked a million questions and she had in-depth answers for everything. Absolutely one of the best outings of our entire trip to Ireland.

Hi Julia,
Our family is hoping to do the same thing you did at Gap of Dunloe. We want to hike and then boat back. Did you make a reservation for the boat ahead of time? If so, can you tell me who to contact? How did you know where to go for the hike part? Where did you start? What time was the boat? We would like to do this early in the day and then have the afternoon and evening to do something else.Did you do this on your own or as part of a tour? Any info. Would be greatly appreciated.

Dois t'on obligatoirement réserver avant et est ce facilement accessible en transport en commun ? Do we have to book it before and is it easy to reach with public transports? Thank you

Is there a preferred direction to travel the lakes? I know the boats travel both ways, and that the current flows from Lord Brandon's toward Ross Castle. Which is better? Is the time the same going against the current as with?

I wanted to start our hike of the Gap of Dunloe at Kate Kearney's cottage and finish at Lord Brandon's. How does the timing work on the boats?
