Overview
More
The Black Valley lies on the road between Moll's Gap and the Gap of Dunlow - a beautiful and isolated valley in the heart of Killarney National Park. Most visitors hasten by on the way to the drama of the Gap of Dunloe. Instead, stop, look around, take a walk. The Black Valley was the last place in Ireland to receive an electrical supply - in the 1970's.

The black valley, just south of Killarney is an impressive region of the national park. It has a secluded feeling, and impressive natural area in between several mountains. Hard to cross by car because of the very narrow roads.

Seen an Instagram post about the Gap of Dunloe and thought would give it a go driving from Kenmare to Killarney. First we almost missed the turn off the main road because it was so steep that you couldn’t even see the road properly. Judging...More

Didn't know anything about the valley, but booked a place to stay in it for two nights. The drive down from Moll's Gap was so much fun! It was windy and narrow and the scenery in the valley was stunning! Great fun! Would love to...More

Hiked through the valley when doing the Kerry Way by footh. Peace, calm, quiet and serene. Millions of miles away from the busy ring of kerry

Drove to the Dunloe Gap area, quite the drive. Once we got on top we saw the Black Valley. It was a nice afternoon and the valley was very scenic. Plan to take your time a day is not too long for this area.

We stayed at an AirBnb and our host recommended taking the Black Valley road for a view from the valley -- outstanding!! One of the best parts of the Ring of Kerry. It can only be accessed by cars, bikes, and foot traffic, so it...More

Nice drive in Kerry but at the area there are more things to see. Still, it's great to do after the passage through the mountains.

The Black Valley has the most perfect views of mountains, lakes, wildlife and abandoned houses... We drove the Black Valley just to find the house (see attached) as its been the main reason I wanted to go to Killarney after seeing pictures I really wanted...More

The area is truly a set back in time with a tranquil atmosphere and untouched nature, lakes, waterfalls and small streams wherever you look.

One of the most beautiful places on the planet. Even though the weather was a bit overcast it made the scenery even more spectacular. Drive with care as you can meet a horse and trap on those sharp bends!
