Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We didn’t pay for the guided tour to go inside the castle - which was reasonably priced, but my son and daughter-in-law weren’t keen. So instead we enjoyed the grounds and surrounding scenery - which were exquisite.
There’s also clean public toilets at the castle, and a cute little coffee shop.
Definitely worth a visit, even without the tour.

Refurbished and kinda boring… this castle is not a ruin. It’s glammed up and nothing looks authentic to me. Tour guide was pleasant but a lot of questions not answered just because of lack of information from that long ago.

We only toured the outside of the castle. It is walking distance from downtown Killarney. Very old. Cool because its RIGHT on the lakeside.

We toured the castle with our guide. While the castle started as a Norman tower, changes were made to it over the centuries. We were able to tour the quarters of the lord and his family, along with the banquet hall. The castle was built for defense, not luxury, so even the lord didn't have that easy of a life. The grounds around the castle are quite lovely.

We came across this little gem by chance and were lucky enough to catch the last tour of the day with Claudia. She was fantastic! So informative without sounding like she was just regurgitating a pre made speech. She really got you interested in the history of the castle.
The only little thing that was a bit disappointing was some of the tapestries and furniture were not from the era of the castle, so I felt there was no real reason for them to be there, the castle portrayed enough on its own!

This tour was really amazing. Our tour guide was such a wonderful storyteller! We learned so much about the castle and history about Killarney as well! So very worthwhile!

We went during sunset, and it was quite magical.
The castle is closed during winter. Yet, especially with the backdrop of Muckross lake, it is so beautiful from the outside.

As with most things in Kerry, it's the people who make it special, and our tour of Ross castle was no different. Peter took us through what is a fairly minimally furnished old castle, but he painted a picture that took us back to clan life in medieval Ireland.

The tour was detailed, entertaining, and professional. I did not like the inability to take pictures....bummer. Tour guides were patient with active children, but it was a bit of a distraction to the rest of the tour.

When we visited we were only able to walk around the outside. If you want to tour the inside you have to make a reservation. I just googled ross castle and it says the site is closed. I don't know the correct answer for you at this time. Try to send an email and see what happens.

They have an outdoor area with picnic benches and tables. You can get hot beverages and soft drinks and cakes, biscuits etc in a small shop on site.

Is it possible to purchase tickets for a Ross Castle tour only at the castle? Or, maybe at our hotel the Killarney Plaza Hotel and Spa? Thank you!

We were looking into the B&B at the castle. I don't find information on it now. Was I misguided a year ago and there never was a B&B in this Ross Castle?

The Ross Castle B&B is in Oldcastle County Meath and not the one in Killarney. There is a disclaimer in their website.

We will be doing the Hop On/Hop Off Tour and would like to take a picnic lunch with us. We will begin our day at Ross Castle and so will not be eating until later at Muckross House. Wondering what the "bag policy" is at Ross Castle. Can we take a backpack (with lunch in it) into Ross Castle?

You cannot have any food or drink out during your tour however there are lovely areas outside to eat and enjoy the brilliant views.

Hi we will be visiting in September and will visit Ross Castle and would also like to take a boat trip from there. Wondering if parking is likely to be problem and can we leave the car in the Castle car park for a number of hours? Thanks

The car park was quite large and free so you shouldn't have any problems.
