Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely place for a walk! The trees are mossy and beautiful. Lots of people walking dogs, playing soccer, enjoying the outdoors. Easy, paved trail, but you can off-road it too for a little more adventure.

This is a really lovely place for a walk. It feels very serene walking through the wooded bit.

Admittedly, some parts are more exposed but it's a nice, peaceful place to take a walk.

The only drawback is that parking is very minimal as there are only 10 or so spaces, so we ended up parking at Silverstrand Beach and walking down, which wasn't the end of the world.

Would recommend!

With all the moss on the trees and rocks, the woods look like they have green couches and chairs inviting you to sit and converse with the gnomes and fairies who live there. 😊

This is a great location to walk your dog. Lovely walk in the summer or the winter. The wooded area is full of interesting shapes which is great for photos.

Barna woods are a delight to my grandchildren especially as they now love tree hugging. We have great fun there. It is an absolutely delightful place to take children .

Easy access from the city by bus, and a nice way to get some fresh air and exercise. There aren't many amenities within the park, but it's a lovely place for a nature walk.

Nice place to go to for a relaxing stroll. Just a short spin from the city centre. Worth a look if in the area.

Wonderful atmospheric woods that are easily accessible from Bearna or from the Community Centre in Cnoc na Cathrach.

This small forest is adorable but nothing special for real.
A short track to breathe under some trees and walk around with your dog and that's all. ..... Ok some of these trees are really stunning to be honest. But, even if I'm living in Galway I have to say.....
If you're looking for a really beautiful forest trail, you've got the wrong city: Cong is the right place to find them.
It is plenty of stunning, beautifull forests.
All around of the lake there is the huge Mr Guinnes forest, that he planted lots of years a go when He decided to live in Ashford Castle, in Cong. Lord Ardilaun's Forest is one of them, for example.
Instead If you are just in rush and you want just have a fast walk, in that case it is perfect and, of course we are lucky having that .
Enjoy it!

A nice mature hardwood forest in a country that was once covered in such woodlands, but now suffers from a shortage of them. The walk from the Knocknacarra Community Centre to the park entrance on Barna Roads is a nice little walk, whether for a half hour or for longer enjoyment of the woods. (The Texaco mini-mart a few minutes from the Barna Road entrance has decent ice cream, BTW.) There's also a small picnic area just to the east of the Texaco station, and just a bit to the east of that, (with a tiny entrance on Barna Road) is the Lough Rusheen Woods where further woodland hiking can be had.

For me, the nicest time to go out to Barna Woods is September or even August when the mushroom season is peaking out. Barna Woods gets an amazing and showy variety. And yes, a few edible varieties pop up (albeit, the only chanterelles I've seen there have been *very* small), but be sure you know what you're doing before consuming any - deadly poisonous Amanita phalloides can be quite common there!
