The Crane Bar is the quintessential Irish pub. You will not find a more genuine, more delightful experience. We spent the better part of a Sunday afternoon there, listening to live trad music and enjoying very reasonably priced drinks with the friendliest people on Earth. It was so perfect it was like a dream. Slainte!

Had to visit this little gem, bit off the normal walking track of central Galway but easy short walk, proper live Irish music by locals very friendly, quite small but don't just pop in and go again, honestly grab a seat and enjoy.

If you want traditional Irish music up close and personal, this is the place. Whether at the street level bar for Irish session music on Sunday afternoon, 2 to 5 pm, or at its intimate upstairs bar and tables from 9:30 most nights, you will listen to some of the best traditional local musicians—with violins, guitars, accordions, pipes, vocals—gathering together around a table over pints—to be found anywhere. Tourists like my group are welcome but this is not a tourist bar (like many of the others in Galway offering traditional music). Staff and local customers are friendly and welcoming. Just be respectful of the musicians, listen, don’t drown them out with talk and shouting. In the West End, very close to the downtown streets teaming with tourists, but set off a bit. Walls are decorated with portraits of musicians, Irish independence heroes, historical references. Its as authentic and Irish bar as you’ll find anywhere. (And I have been to 100s around the world).

Gem of a pub. Fantastic Guinness, great staff and great for an aul trad session. Very cosy pub, just away from the madness of shop street and the like, one of the best pubs in Galway city easily.

Wandered upstairs and happened upon a trad sing-along, followed by a music session with some seriously great performers (including a woman playing the uilleann pipes - fab musician).

We got to the Crane Bar at about half 11. The room upstairs was busy but we were still able to get a stool to sit on. There were no less than 14 musicians participating in the evening session, and it was quite good. No microphones or amplification, just a bunch of amateur musicians sitting in and playing some really good music. Even more special was when one of them would stop the session to sing a solo rendition of a classic Irish ballad a cappella. The entire room would get absolutely silent while listening. It was incredible.

Great time, friendly work staff, in a warm atmosphere. The bartender shared interesting stories of Irish history and current events while we enjoyed the music of an 8 person impromptu band. Our first experience listening to the Uilleann Pipe who was the band lead. We will likely be back again tonight!
