Great trad sessions - singing and instruments
Dec 2019
Wandered upstairs and happened upon a trad sing-along, followed by a music session with some seriously great performers (including a woman playing the uilleann pipes - fab musician).

Trad Session
Jan 2020
We got to the Crane Bar at about half 11. The room upstairs was busy but we were still able to get a stool to sit on. There were no less than 14 musicians participating in the evening session, and it was quite good. No microphones or amplification, just a bunch of amateur musicians sitting in and playing some really good music. Even more special was when one of them would stop the session to sing a solo rendition of a classic Irish ballad a cappella. The entire room would get absolutely silent while listening. It was incredible.

This is the spot for traditional Irish music!
Dec 2019 • Couples
Great time, friendly work staff, in a warm atmosphere. The bartender shared interesting stories of Irish history and current events while we enjoyed the music of an 8 person impromptu band. Our first experience listening to the Uilleann Pipe who was the band lead. We will likely be back again tonight!

Two Nights in a Row!
Nov 2019 • Friends
Two of our four friends had such a great visit we all returned the next night! Lovely traditional music with a sweet bartender named Colm on the side to patiently answer our questions and pour the best mini Guinness’. Everything you dream of in an Irish pub is here.

Fantastic

A unique establishment with an authentic Traditional Irish Music scene. No visit to Galway is complete without filling your senses with music and this place does that by the bucketful.

A real Irish bar
Nov 2019
My group visited a number of bars during our three night stay in Galway but the Crane was very much the pick of the bunch as even early evening the bar had a great atmosphere and warm feeling. However the place was at its best later in the evening when the live music began and we were treated to a great performance of traditional Irish music and song albeit one about a pigeon in Rome was a little odd !

A must see, and worth it
Sep 2019
Went with a group of 8 at the end of a trip, and a long day. But well worth it to hear the traditional music on the 2nd floor! I wouldn't recommend if you have mobility issues (staircase and low seating).

Excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon
Sep 2019
We were given a heads up that local musicians congregated at this bar on Sundays so we boogied over and found the two of the last open seats in the room. Two and a half hours later the group was still going strong: penny whistle, flute, drum, banjo, and a celtic harp along with two a cappella performances. What a treat. It is cash only so be aware before you go in.
