- Megan MBelfast, United Kingdom50 contributionsIrish Experience!☘️Galway’s Latin Quarter is the ultimate Authentic Irish experience. Going post covid I would recommend booking restaurants/pubs in advance. We booked places and pub hopped, getting starters at each place as food is required to have with drinks at the moment (due to Covid). Live singers on the streets, beautiful buildings and hustle and bustle make it the perfect place to sit outside with a pint of Guinness and people watch!☘️💚Visited August 2020Written 30 August 2020
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia13,418 contributionsWhere art comes to lifeGalway is a city by the sea, it has many things to see, including the famous "gansey", or "guernseys". The Latin Quateer is an area of the arts, where you can often find artists and craftsmen selling their creations by the side of the road. We bought some nice pieces, wshich were Celtic in design, quite inexpensively, including a ring, represeenting "love" or my daughter..Visited June 2020Written 20 July 2020

It starts at St. Nicholas’ Church it runs through the Saturday market and onto O’Brien’s Bridge. From there it follows the River Corrib down to the Spanish Arch where the Museum is located and then turns back up Middle Street onto Buttermilk Lane where it joins the starting point. People throng through here to enjoy the live entertainment as they wander through the cobbled streets and the hot spots on Quay Street, full of bars, restaurants and hotels. Galway was due to celebrate the European Capital of Culture 2020 which has been stymied by the pandemic. This is a highlight for many visitors to Galway and one of our favourite quarters in the city.Visited September 2020Written 2 September 2020

Great vibe and energy. Right in the middle of the city. Touristy but still fun. Tons of places for a beer. Very walkable. We enjoyed the area.

Lovely vibe on this street. Visited on a Friday early evening and there was live music playing and the street was placed with people enjoying themselves. Looked to me lots of options for food and drink here though was unable to partake.

This is a super lively area in central Galway but - alas - overly touristy and thus has lost quite a lot its authenticity, compared to 15-20 years ago. My daughter remarked "it's like Mong Kok" (the popular and packed Hong Kong district) and returned to the hotel... at some times in the afternoon, it seeks every tourist visiting the area is here....

Bit of a continuation of Quay Street with shops, pubs, and restaurants. Very crowded so keep a close eye on your kids and pets. Good place to walk around but not a necessity while visiting.

What a fabulous place, lively and busy with people both local and tourists. Some nice shops and plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The street performers were very professional from a harpist to singers and a guy perfmorming with a football. Good to wander about and soak up the atmosphere. Grand!

On a late Sunday afternoon, the main shopping street, reserved for pedestrians, was still chock-a-block filled with shoppers, tourists, and locals from the Quay to Eyre Square. It was too crowded to enjoy looking at the various stores and eateries, most of which had outdoor patio tables fenced off from the crowds walking by. Buskers, who must first get a permit, entertained along the street including a young girl violinist! Enjoyed seeing the books in the 2 bookshops on this street and a photo stop infront of Lynch's Castle/the bank, but couldn't wait to get to Eyre Square for a breather. Even the area around the St. Nicholas Collegiate Church was packed where locals had set up tables to sell bric a brac. This church closes at 4:30 so I missed seeing its interiors. The Oscar Wilde statue, chatting to Estonian author, Vilde, seemed out of place on such a busy street. A park - Eyre Square - would have been more appropriate IMO. I guess it's not an experience to be missed to walk along the main street in the Latin Quarter, but I didn't linger.

The atmosphere is festive, bars and restaurants are plentiful, and the history is worth well taking in. Spread over a number of lanes you will likely cover the historical and Latin quarter of Galway within a day or two (depending on your pace). It's certainly worth the time to stop by and admire the architecture and quaint shops.

Our hotel was at the gateway to the Quarter, so we walked through there a couple of times each day we were there. Lots of great food, drink, and shops. Lots of street musicians. This was a very special part of our trip.

Most of the small craft and gift shops stay open on Saturdays to 06;00 pm ... I believe in Summer time as it's a lot of tourists , it's really not a problem to do shopping
