Off the beaten path Castle
Oct 2021
Heard about this castle on Instagram. A bit hard to locate....just keep walking!
Worth the visit to see the ruins. Nice water view from the site with rowers passing by.

Wonderful Place to Visit
Sep 2020 • Friends
Me and my friends walked from Corrib Village to Menlo Castle and it took us around 1h15m to reach there but it was worth visiting the place. It is a beautiful castle with corrib river running just adjacent to it. It is free to roam around the castle and click pictures anywhere you want. The path to this place is little confusing as there is no sign on the way and in some parts there were no sidewalks to walk, so I would not recommend to walk when it gets dark at night.
But it is a place you must visit and see with your own eyes.

Ivy covered castle ruins
Feb 2020 • Family
This was a fun stop on our way out of town. We had to climb over a metal gate to reach it, but there weren’t “no trespassing” songs so we felt okay about it. Our kids thought it was really neat and you could freely explore. We had a picture perfect rainbow while we were there!

One of my favorites in Galway
May 2019
Stayed at Menlo Park Hotel where there was an abstract painting of Menlo Castle. Googled it out of curiosity. Castle has a tragic history, destroyed by fire that killed the invalid daughter of the owners and 2 maids. Asked the front desk personnel about it and they were pretty much clueless as to what it even was. One girl told us that you could see it if you went to the sports field of the college across the river from where it is located. I read on trip advisor that it was accessible. Called for a taxi, driver said yes he was familiar with how to get there. It would be walkable from this hotel except that the road to it is VERY narrow and windy with hedges on both sides- so no where to move out of the way of traffic.

Driver dropped us off on the narrow road that leads to the site, and told us to climb over the gate at the end of the road. (Easy climb over- metal farm type gate) Told us that it is NOT trespassing as some have worried about, climbing the gate just saves you a long hike around. Had the driver come back to pick us up in an hour which was more than enough time to explore and get some beautiful pictures of the ruins that have been overtaken by vines and birds. Truly lovely site and one of the highlights of my trip. We had the place all to ourselves. I've included pictures of the road in to the ruins as well.

Castle ruins - see if you can
Sep 2019
We would not suggest that this be a place to put at the top of your list. But, if you're nearby, it's worth a little side adventure.

First, the parking is weird. It's on a little country lane and you park in front of residential homes. Then, you climb over the fence, walk down a path, and visit the ruins. It's quite picturesque on a sunny day.

Probably trespassing
Sep 2019 • Couples
We were likely trespassing because we had to hop a fence in order to see this Castle but it is spectacular. I truly recommend anyone one that likes ruins to go see you this 1. One-of-a-kind.

Vine covered beauty
Aug 2019
We parked at the end of a dead end street and climbed the gate. After a very short walk we were gifted with a beautiful sight. The outside of the castle and the outbuildings have pretty much been claimed by nature, but it is stunning. You can climb inside on the lowest level and get a real sense of the architecture. A lovely setting right on the river.
There are no bathrooms and no wheel chair access.

Good views from the other side of the river
Aug 2019
I went there for the views and reflections in the water. For this, it is best to head for the university sports grounds. Park at the rugby field and then take a short walk straight down to the river for some excellent views and water mirror effects.

Hidden gem!
Apr 2019
We almost skipped going here, because Google Maps sent us down the wrong road. The road to the left, without the gate, is a lovely walk, but does NOT lead to the castle. You must climb the gate, which we were certain was trespassing, but several locals during our visit assured us that if it not posted with a "No Trespassing" that you can visit respectfully. Menlo turned out to be a highlight of our entire trip! Tragic story with beautiful views of the river and architecture.
