Our 4th pub on our first evening in Galway. We were informed right away this is not a singing pub which was made apparent when an old Irish man starting singing out a belter and was told to stop. We didn't mind we thought let us have a pint in this traditional boozer and see what the craic is.. The old Irish man we ended up chatting with and finding out he lived not far from us back in England! We had a chat with him and his wife and then went back to our seats. He then came over and challenged us to a riddle.. If we couldn't get it he said we'd need to buy him a drink. The Riddle: Which famous rock group once had an American president in it? The answer will be at the end of the review so you can play along. Anyway, we couldn't work out the riddle so he asked if I could get him a hot whiskey that contained hot water a lemon slice stuffed with cloves and a healthy serving of whiskey. I asked for two.. I drank my hot whiskey and we continued drinking and laughing and generally having some good craic. It was in this pub we learned you must wait until your Guinness is as black as the ace of spades before drinking.. Which I and my comrade stuck to the rest of the trip and will continue to stick to back in blighty. After getting quite sozzled here and having great craic we decided to head onwards to another pub as we only had 2 nights in Ireland and had to make the most of it. In hindsight this pub even though there was no singing had the most craic in my opinion and everyone was very friendly.. Riddle answer: Mount Rushmore! Not a band at all but a rock group!

Was here with group of friends for the weekend, lovely wee pub, sound staff, great wee spot that while it was busy managed to get seats for us all which is a bonus on a Saturday night, friendly locals, will definitely head there for a drink when visiting Galway again.

Stopped in for a Pint after getting off our bus tour. Pub with locals, and they were polite but not overly friendly. Really wanted some Pub food with our Pints but did not see a menu or offered one. Not busy while we were there. Every other Pub was crazy busy becaude of College Christmas Night, (November 14th). Somewhat disappointed for not being offered food.

Murphy's is certainly helping lead the gastropub revolution in Galway. Excellent quality plates with great variety, and top-notch selection of liquors, complete with competent mixology. Laid-back atmosphere (necessary for a pub) but still shines with a touch of class. A great stop if you find yourself in Galway (and, really, why wouldn't you?).

By far the worst hospitality in Galway.

A group of friends walk in at 4pm being polite and are turned away as they 'don't serve groups'.

Every other bar in Galway has been nothing short of brilliant.

Avoid.

Stopped in for a pint on our first day in Galway, and lucked out finding Beamish on tap! We were very pleased as it is hard to find north of Cork. There is a bit of a B.O. smell around the table areas, just needs a little TLC and spritz of Febreeze. Had a good time.

I went in there for a drink with some friends on a Saturday night. We quickly drank up and left as the smell was rancid. It smelled of sewerage. Very unpleasant experience.
