The week we spent cycling in the west of Ireland was amazing! Every day was different - beautiful country roads, cycling by the ocean, cycling through the burren, seeing the Cliffs of Mohr. And our evenings with our group of 20 friendly cyclists were full of fun, laughter and great food ( and a few drinks too😄). John, our tour guide leader and owner of the company was so welcoming, experienced, jovial, knowledgeable - I could go on and on!- suffice to say he was just the best - nothing was too much trouble for him and we appreciated the extras he did for us - always with a smile on his face. And his second in command, John Joe is not only an awesome driver but a historian with a wealth of information about not only the history of Ireland but also the flora and fauna of the region. We were blessed with fabulous weather for our week of cycling making it perfect!

We had a wonderful time on this bike trip! This was our first trip of this kind. John was a great tour guide and had everything planned out for us. The eBikes were so easy to use. My husband and I were able to compete the 30 miles or so each day with smiles on our faces, including 50 miles the last day! The west coast of Ireland is very pretty and the Cliffs of Moher are stunning. I’d highly recommend this trip!

We concluded our Cycle Holidays Ireland tour a week ago, and I consider it one of the best experiences we have ever had while away on holiday. Our adventure started off in Bunratty, where we met up with our group of 15 other cyclists, and the owner, John Heagney and his crew, Paddy and Stephen. We pedaled a gorgeous loop through the countryside, growing accustomed to riding along the left side of the quiet country roads. The following day, we launched from the town of Crusheen , through the rocky Burren to Kinvarra. Then off to Lisdoonvarna where we visited the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, and capped off our mainland days in County Clare with an unforgettable ride along the Wild Atlantic Way. We took a biking break day to explore Inishmore, the most distant of the Aran Islands, before traveling to Clifden. John saved the best for last, with two days of riding through some of the most wondrous parts of wild Connemara, before wrapping up in Galway for a final dinner.

John guided the entire tour with skill, good humor, and rich stories that deepened our experience of the land, the people, and the history of this beautiful country. While ever-mindful of safety, John personalized the biking experience, enabling us to choose routes of different lengths depending on ability. It was truly a guided tour, with John’s helpful presence throughout the day.

Everything about this bike tour was done with care and attention, from the fine lodging to the delicious meals, Irish music, and unique historical spots and natural formations. I refer to John as Ireland’s ambassador. He was dedicated to making sure our entire group had a wonderful time while visiting Ireland. For anyone who wants to have an exhilarating experience of Ireland’s enchanted western region, this is definitely the tour for you. Get ready for the time of your life.

From Bunratty through the Burren to Lisdoonvarna, and then along the Wild Atlantic Way to Connemara and Galway City, John Heagney with Cycle Holidays Ireland, along with his excellent crew, Paddy and Stephen, provided us with a glimpse into the breathtaking wonders of the west of Ireland that only locals know. From beginning to end, John, our outstanding tour director, took care of all the details, so we could just ride and enjoy our cycling experience. Everything from our accommodations, meals, pubs, and best places to hear Irish music along the way were thoughtfully curated. The cycling equipment was top of the line, and we learned that John has in-depth expertise with any and all bike issues.

John was the linchpin of the experience. His warm, friendly, attentive presence made it all possible, as did his excellent Irish wit and sense of humor. His focus on everyone having an enjoyable tour was evident throughout. His extensive knowledge of Irish history deepened our understanding of the country around us. And he even introduced us to the deliciousness of Irish Mist!. John made me proud that my people are from Ireland. This was the trip of a lifetime in every way. It's the best and it is not too early to sign up for a tour in 2023!

We initially booked this trip 2019 for travel in 2020 - you know what happened then....
We finally were able to complete our booking with Cycle Holidays Ireland this past week, and wish we could have continued for a further week. John, Paddy, and Stephen took great care of us during our trip. The equipment was excellent, the tour destinations exceptional, and the level of management was truly outstanding, especially management of the weather and biking conditions.
John is well versed in the history of the areas that we visited, and the extracurricular activities he suggested enhanced our stay as well.
The food choices were outstanding as well. No one talks about the food in Ireland, but we found it to be very fresh, tasty, and the prices were very good as well.
Cannot say enough good things about Cycle Holidays Ireland. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough good things about John Heagney and Cycle Holidays Ireland. John is incredibly detail oriented and is prepared for any contingency. He brings extra bikes in case technical problems arise, he provides maps and detailed instructions for each day's ride, his routes are incredibly well-marked, and he provides phones to contact him for riders like myself who become so enthralled with the scenery, they forget to look for the route markers and get lost! John truly has a gift for hospitality. His ability to read a room, access everyones wants and meet their needs is incredibly unique. It's amazing to see him juggle so many personalities and find a way to keep them all happy. And he does it all with a smile and positive attitude . His answer to any crazy request is "no problem!" He managed to fit in an afternoon of surfing for us, even though that wasn't part of the itinerary. Thanks, John! The entire tour remarkably well-thought out. We rolled through green pastures laden with sheep, horses, cows and even alpacas. We biked through fields of wildflowers, the rocky Burren and bogs and lakes in Connemara. We got to stop and explore stunning beaches, historic abbeys and castles, and the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher. We also explored numerous pubs and sampled plenty pints of Guinness. John also introduced us to Irish Mist - for better or worse! His picks for accommodations were spot on. The food everywhere we went was fantastic and far more elevated than anticipated. Everything was fresh and locally sourced, and lots of freshly baked yummy desserts. It's clear that over the past 22 years John has put his heart and soul into creating this beautiful tour, and genuinely cares about his clients and how to provide them with the best experience possible. What's even more impressive is that he's always thinking about the next one and how he can continue to make it even better. So, the bottom line, if you're looking to book a bike tour in Ireland, go with Cycle Holidays Ireland. You'll be glad you did :)

The experience we had with Cycle Holidays Ireland and John Heagney exceeded all of our expectations. From the time that we arrived in Ireland to the day we departed, John made sure that our holiday would be quite memorable. With John, you have a person who grew up in Western Ireland and remains knowledgeable with the history, geography and culture of the region. He takes it upon himself to convey this knowledge throughout the cycling tour which adds to the overall enjoyment of the adventure.

Cycle Holidays Ireland allows you to experience the backroads of Ireland, not just the roads most traveled. Several times, we were able to interact with the local Irish people either walking on the roads or in the pubs and found them very open and willing to engage in conversation.

Logistically, you do not have to worry about Cycle Holidays Ireland. The bikes and related gear are top notch. The meals and accommodations are of high quality, giving you a good exposure to the Irish way of life.

John Heagney owner and operator of Cycle Holidays Ireland is someone I will not forget. He has been running bicycle tours across Ireland for 22 years and it really shows! From his personal pick up at arrival, to top notch accommodations, to amazing breakfasts and dinners to the routes we rode with support along the way it could not have been better organized. But wait! It did get better. Not only are you riding back roads through the most amazing scenery, you are getting his personal touch of narrations of the culture, geography and history of Ireland. He has a full fleet of ebikes and regular bikes and caters to all levels of riders. His attention to details provides each rider with the correct fit and correct style bike. Our group for the week consisted of all levels of abilities and strength and each and every one of us completed the routes each day with smiles on our faces and a deeper appreciation for Ireland. Stephen was John’s assistant for the week and we had the best time with him! He kept us on the right route and was happy to answer any questions we had. His website has very detailed I information and a great video showing highlights of a typical week. Honestly it is hard to capture the beauty in photos but I sure did try! Thank you John and Stephen for making our week one we will never forget! If there was a higher rating than five stars I’d be giving it.

We have gone on at least a dozen bike trips. All were great but this one is the one we will measure all trips against. It was the best by far. There was wonderful biking, scenery, lodgings and food. John, Paddy and Steven ARE THE BEST. They added so much; history, culture, laughs and lots of help. An added plus is that it was a very reasonable price. You can't go wrong with John and his crew.

As to the weather, it is Ireland. Not hot, can drizzle most days but not enough to stop our fun.

Absolute Awesomeness John! One of the best vacations ever and a large part of this was because of you! John has an astounding knowledge of the area, fascinating stories about the country, an amazing ability to recognize a cyclists competence after a short discussion & recommend a specific bike for a perfect ride. And what a stunning ride it was-everyday. Everything from the bike, the route, the accommodations, the meals was just incredible. Thank you John & Stephen for an awe-inspiring week!
