We did a free walking tour of Dublin with Yellow Umbrella Walking Tours our first full day in the city. Our guide was Sean. He escorted us through the city to show us many historical highlights. This allowed us to plan our remaining days to see some of the sights in more depth. Sean was friendly and fun. We also did the pub life tour the following night with Peter from Yellow Umbrella Tours. This was a great because we had our own private area in some popular pubs that we might not have been able to get in to if we hadn't been on a tour. We were able to taste local craft beer, gin, whiskey, and of course, Guinness. Peter was very personable and got us all laughing. He really encouraged group participation and got everyone mixing and sharing stories from their own culture. Pro tip.......hold off booking the pub tour until you do the free tips based walking tour. We were offered a 30% discount on the pub tour because we booked it at the end of the walking tour.

Our tour guide was Martin, a true Dubliner, born and raised with generations of his family living in Dublin. We did the south side tour on a dreary and misty day, but Martin really kept the energy going with his enthusiastic storytelling and hilarious jokes. We had a group from all over the world and Martin kept everyone engaged while making sure there was enough time for photos and questions. We knew some Irish history beforehand but it was still great hearing it told from a Dubliner. Martin also runs several other tours with this company, so you may be lucky enough to have him take you around his home city more than once. It was truly one of the best walking tours I have taken in Europe.
The online booking process was simple and this was the only tour we saw that started at 10am, as most start at 11am. It was approximately 2h30m, with a 15-min break at Temple Bar. The guides carry yellow umbrellas and are easy to find. It does cost 3 euro per person to book, but we believe this was to cover online processing and to hold the reservation. Most other tour companies will actually charge this to the tour guide so we appreciate and assume that they did not do this. Overall, we highly recommend this company and hope to check out another tour soon!

We did two free walking tours with Yellow Umbrella in Dublin - Southside and Northside. For the Southside part, which is more sightseeing-oriented, our guide was Rob and it took a good 2h. For The Northside part, which is more about the history of Ireland‘s independence at the beginning of the 20th century and the famine, our guide was Peter and it took about 90 minutes. Both guides have been excellent and we enjoyed both tours very much. There was a good amount of information and, as they are walking tours, you get to know central Dublin basically for free 😉 In any case, highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, which lasted around two and a half hours and covered the major sightseeing spots in Dublin. It provided a great overview of the city, allowing me to decide which places I’d like to explore further later on. Our tour guide, Rob, was incredibly friendly and engaging. During transitions between stops, he took the time to chat with people individually, asking about their lives and discussing a variety of topics, which added a personal touch to the experience. The tour mainly focuses on the southern part of the city, and Rob made everyone feel like friends with his warm demeanor and good sense of humor.

I recently joined a free walking tour of Dublin with a guide named Rob. I have done other free walking tours before, but none were as high quality as this one. Right from the start, Rob was very friendly and approachable and made an effort to get to know everyone in the group. Rob's extensive knowledge of Dublin's history was evident as he shared fascinating anecdotes and historical facts with great enthusiasm. Additionally, his passion for Dublin was palpable, and his insightful commentary left us with a deeper appreciation for the city. I would highly recommend this walking tour to anyone looking to explore Dublin in an enriching and personable way.

We hired Guru Walk services, just as we had done in Edinburgh,
for a walking tour of Dublin’s landmarks, in Spanish.
The guide, Nicolas, Uruguayan, resident in Dublin, showed great sympathy, good humor and, above all, a marked professionalism, when he related with great historical knowledge, the history of Ireland present in every corner of the city.
In addition, we mail to attendees, all kinds of recommendations about restaurants, pubs and other activities to consider for the future.

Great tours of the Southside tour with James and the Northside with Martin !
We very much enjoyed the Southside tour with James who was able to provide a lot of context and history behind each location, despite the relative chaos of a Saturday's afternoon in the busy city centre !
If you intend to also do the Northside tour, I would recommend this one first to get your bearings if it's the first time in Dublin so you can get familiar with where's what in the heart of the city. Its scope is also a bit broader in the historical sense, so that will also help you decide what to visit next during your stay.
Martin was our guide a few days after that for the Northside tour, it was very intimate as there were only four of us including him ! ;)
He nonetheless vividly told us about the events before, during and after the 1916 Easter Rising while guiding us in the North Side to hidden spots that are a bit outside of the tourist path (if you exclude the GPO, of course).
Sadly for time reasons, we could not attend a trad music event at the Pipers Corner pub he recommended, but we had a drink there afterwards nonetheless !

We did the South Side walking tour with Sam - it was great! It was a great way to orient ourselves to the city and a get bit of Irish history (even though this was a little uncomfortable at times for those of us from the UK). Sam was a knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging tour guide - so good in fact that 2 reluctant teenagers decided to stick with it rather than peel off, which had been their intention if things got boring. Though it was advertised as 'free' there was an online booking fee of 3Euros per adult, and we definitely felt as if we should tip well at the end (Sam accepted cash or card).

We booked this tour in advance on line and were able to choose the date that worked for us. The directions and process were all easy to navigate. We met at the Spire which we had found the day before. We had a not great rainy time of the weather but about 15 of us made up a very globally eclectic group and Rob walked us by some statues and buildings with funny and interesting histories to share. The pace was pleasant, the castle yard and church yards were interesting. I wish we would have gone to Trinity but we did it on our own later. It is a good tour to familiarize a tourist with South Dublin and learn a lot of history of Ireland as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Southside walking tour. Conor, our guide, was knowledgeable, humourous, and easy to understand. He was loud enough while still being considerate, and detailed enough in discussions of history without sounding professorial. I would recommend this tour for people who want to get a fun introduction to the city and its history.

Hi I would like to know if you need to book onto this walk, if so is there a website name for it? It seems that Conner is the man to have.

We are going to Dublin on 30 Sept 2023. Can we expect you to be at The Spire at 18:00 for the free walking tour?
Written 10 September 2023
When we went, we booked in advance. They did let people on who hadn't booked, but there was so many people and they have maximum numbers so worth booking if you can. It is a fabulous tour.
Written 11 September 2023
Hi, how many people are usually in a group? Is it hard to hear the guide? Any head sets available?
Written 5 July 2022
36 people booked on the tour so the company(yellow umbrella) provided two guides and the group was split into two separate tours. The guide, conor, was very easy to hear and understand, headsets definitely not needed. Hope you enjoy the tour.
