When planning our trip to Ireland, I looked at many tours out of Dublin. However, when I saw this Game of Thrones tour, I knew I wanted to take part. It was so unique compared to all the other tours out of Dublin. I was not disappointed with my decision.
Lar was our tour guide, and he was so amazing! He was so enthusiastic and passionate throughout the tour - he kept the attention of everyone in our group, even those who had not seen any GOT.
And for the tour itself, what a cool detail that you get to wear cloaks throughout the tour to truly immerse yourself in the GOT world.
TLDR: If you’re considering taking this tour, do it! It’s a unique way to see part of Northern Ireland, GOT fan or not. We had so much fun.

Thanks for a great review of our Winterfell Trek from Dublin! Regarding the cloaks, if somebody is a fan of Game of Thrones and they are visiting the film locations of House Stark from the early seasons 1 and 2, of course you simple *have* to wear a heavy wool Stark cloak! Northern Ireland in November is the very aesthetic of the Kingdom of the North - even the mist, the smoke of your breath, the pale low sunlight, the mossy trees - all of it! So wearing the cloaks turns all of that into an immersive day in Westeros on a Stark theme. If you ever make it to Belfast, check out our Iron Islands & Giant's Causeway for another immersive day in the lands of the Iron Born, Dragonstone and the Stormlands.

This tour and host were amazing. Idf you are into game of thrones and would like to see some cool locations and amazing scenery this tour is for you.
The tour guide was amazing, knowledgeable and extremely enthusiastic. Between his stories, pictures, knowledge of the show and the on bus entertainment not a minute of the day was wasted.
We left from Dublin, made a stop at the Obama Plaza rest stop for a quick coffee and pastry then to a tavern for lunch before we got to the locations.
Dress comfortably and wear good shoes because there are two treks through that are about 3km each or better.
We enjoyed every bit of the tour as it was also very interactive. Brush up on your GOT trivia!

Between comfort stops, behind the scenes clips, visiting real locations, the cloaks and swords and the 'Brain of Thrones' quiz, the day flies in! Lar, our guide, the Wildlings Chieftan was fantastic! Such insights into the filming and locations made this a fabulous day tour! He kept the group engaged with his stories and was very entertaining. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you are a Game of Thrones fan. There is a good amount of walking involved, a bit more than we anticipated so make sure you're wearing comfortable and sturdy shoes and be prepared for a trek through beautiful wilderness areas at a brisk pace.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice review! Yes there is quite a bit of walking to get to the best filming locations, but the payoff is worth it. Who doesn't want to stand in the Haunted Forest north of the wall where the Night's Watch find wildling bodies in the snow? Of the bridge where the Starks find the direwolf pups. Wear good walking shoes is a must, this is not a tour of the movie sets, this is a tour into the real locations of Westeros after all!

We had a wonderful time on this tour. Lar our tour guide was very informative and friendly. I enjoyed dressing up in costume and hiking the Belfast area. It was very smooth and a lot of fun!

Lar was a great tour guide . He showed us around several fun filming locations that I now am motivated to watch the series again to find them. His tip about the horn steins was especially appreciated because now I can bring home souvenirs to my Game of Thrones crazy friends. All good!

Robbie is the man! My party and I couldn't have been happier with the day's events. For the price you pay, we thought it was well worth the value. The bus ride was comfortable and gave you the opportunity to see lots of the lush countryside. Robbie was super informative and obviously very enthusiastic about his experiences he had filming for the show. All of the spots he showed us were accompanied very well by pictures and video. The only piece of advice I would give to people contemplating whether or not to take the tour is to be prepared for some walking. All in all we clocked around 7 miles of walking that day, so wear comfortable shoes and pack a water bottle.
Overall and amazing experience and a great opportunity to geek out with fellow GOT fans!

That's for a super review for our resident Battle of Blackwater Bay archer, Robbie! You are absolutely right to advise folks to come prepared for some walking to get to the real filming locations. We don't call this tour the Winterfell 'Trek' for nothing! It's not really a coach tour, it's three film location walking tours with the coach shuttling our group to the starting point of each walking tour. Comfortable shoes, even boots are a good idea of you are walking in Ireland any time of year, especially the Westeros-looking part of Ireland! Glad you enjoyed geeking out with us, when in Ireland ya gotta stand in the real Thrones locations :) ⚔️🐺⚔️

The trip was very good. Travelling was comfortable and enjoyable, made easier with games and videos of behind the scenes. We got to see lovely locations and discover fanfacts not only about Game of Thrones, but also about other productions since our lovely, charming guide Lar had been working in many projects. I am also a massive Vikings fan, I am very close to the Norse history, culture and lore and I consider myself an active pegan so I was totally blown away when he sang a piece from Wardruna, in a woodland bit by the Northern Irland coast. It was my personal favourite moment. So, thank you Lar because I'll never forget the feeling of it. Skal to you.
That and getting to hold my favourite hero of the saga sword in my hands. It is a moment worth the pennies.
I also particularly enjoyed the treks we got to do. I love to go out in nature. For one of them it was raining, which didn't bother me but might not be your cup of tea if you're not equipped. I've gotta say to anyone reading: it is breathtaking and soulhealing, but dress up for the occasion. Layer up, wear stuff that keeps you warm and especially that keeps you dry, since Ireland weather is what it is. Don't bother with umbrellas, the wind will sweep them away just rely on a good raincoat and possibly a waterproof hat to keep your head warm and hair dry. Layers are the key, because if its not raining you'll get to wear the cloaks, which are the real thing let me tell you, and they are heavy, nice and warm. But if it is raining you'll need to have cover for the weather. Trekking shoes or good outdoors gym shows will be needed, waterproof of course! Possibly high boots style to cover your ankles, the pathways are likely to be muddy and with puddles, if you wear sneakers-like shoes your feet will get wet.
To note: we got to be taken to a lovely lunch spot for our break called The Lobster Pot, please please please if you go do order the soup. It was the best soup I've have ever eaten in my entire life, and so filling and warm, just what the soul needs after a trek in the woods, trust me.
And that's it, if you read this and decide to go, enjoy it you won't regret it.

Thanks for a very thorough and detailed review and breakdown of the entire experience! Since you are a Vikings fan you got lucky with Lar as your guide! You are absolutely right to say don't bother with umbrellas - when it's windy in the Irish countryside they get destroyed, but good walking boots are essentially when you visit the real filming locations of Winterfell, the Wolfswood outside Winterfell, the forest north of the Wall, etc. It's as mucky as Game of Thrones on this tour! But the wool cloaks with the autumnal colours and the evenings closing in can be magic. The best way to describe the vibe is.....Winter is Coming ⚔️🐺⚔️

Amazing trip with our guide Lar who not only was an extra on Game of Thrones, but also on Vikings and Braveheart. His passion and acumen were unparalleled. He truly is the bard of the bus and even sang for the group in old Norse. This is the 3rd tour we have done and can't wait to come back again next year!

I did this tour as apart of my solo overseas trip, this day was by far the greatest day of my journey. We had Lars & from start to finish he provided an amazing & immerse experience & had exceptional expertise in GOT (as well as being an extra on GOT!) As a huge GOT fan this will be a day ill never forget, truly big thank you to Lars for making this day amazing as it was & providing memories we will all never forget.

Hi Himanshu, if you take either of our Winterfell tours you'll have the opportunity to meet the Direwolves. We don't advertise them as we like to try and surprise our visitors!! Please note these animals are family pets and we cannot guarantee their availability for every tour, this may be due to vet visits, family commitments etc. The family that own them do their very best to meet with each tour.

We are planning on coming to Dublin in October. What happens if the weather is very rainy that day. Does the tour still go on beings that we are trekking through the forest?

Hi Pioneer, thanks for your question! We do the Dublin Winterfell Trek all year round, in all weather, even if it rains. In Ireland it is rare that it rains all day, but it does happen sometimes! We offer all our customers free ponchos to wear if it's raining during the locations treks. The only time we have ever cancelled the Dublin Winterfell Trek was during storms with very high winds where Tollymore Forest Park and Castle Ward were closed to the public due to the risk of falling branches and trees. I hope that answers your question and I hope you can join us!

If citizens from your country are required to have a Visa to enter the United Kingdom, you are required to have the same visa for entering Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom.

We are thinking of booking this tour but wanted to know if a member of the family can not walk the hills etc. what do they do while the rest of us can? Also are there stops along the way home to go to the bathroom?

There are regular bathroom breaks throughout the day. The last bathroom break is around 4/4.30 PM and the coach returns to Dublin for 7.30 PM.

Hi Hetal, Currently between Ireland and the UK there is an agreement called 'The Common Travel Area'. This agreement allows for short term travel across the Northern Irish border without requiring travel documentation. However we would recommend you check with your embassy before you travel that this agreement applies to your country.

Yes, we met two direwolves when we went last year. I don’t think it’s guaranteed and it wasn’t advertised that we would. We were told at lunch that they were outside. The tour is great in general so my recommendation would be to consider it a bonus if you do so you enjoy everything else about the tour too.

Due to the adult content of Game of Thrones we do not accept infants or children under the age of 12 on tour. Minors aged 12 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult and provide a written waiver from a parent or guardian acknowledging the adult content and giving permission for the minor to participate on tour.
