Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's always a pleasure to tour with someone who is both knowledgeable AND enthusiastic. Lorcan Collins brings an encyclopedic knowledge to this tour, able to dredge up the most obscure fact from the corners of his memory with ease. If you're interested at all in the origins of modern Irish history, you owe to yourself to spend two hours of your stay Dublin on the tour. Iontach maith, Lorcan!

Superb Sunday afternoon stroll around Dublin with Liam who was a first class guide - engaging, entertaining and very informative. Set out the context building up to the Easter Rising, the conflict itself and beyond into the Irish Civil War exceptionally well.

It’s a complex enough subject as well as one that’s emotive to this day as it shapes modern Irish history but Liam delivered it all factually and impartially…..which was good as we were (I think!) the only three English guys on the tour!

The Rising was one of the seminal moments in the history of these islands and my understanding of it has been significantly enhanced thanks to Liam’s top tour.

This month I had the privilege of meeting Lorcan for a 2 hour private tour. In 2017 I took the 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour and was thoroughly impressed with the his knowledge and character. This time I was looking to secure additional information on Michael Collins. While having read numerous books on Michael Collins and about the War of Independence I was delighted to walk with him to Dublin places frequented by Michael Collins as well and discuss information on him. Lorcan answered inquiries, resolved questions and provided insight on many aspects of the life, times and experiences of the man. Highly recommend his book ( Ireland's War of Independence ) , his podcast ( Revolutionary Ireland Podcast ) and the 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour. In fact schedule a private tour and walk away impressed and completely satisfied.

My husband’s choice - and a good one it was!
Very informative and entertaining tour. It was great to learn about the facts from someone who is clearly passionate about it. I would recommend this tour - but if you’re tempted to grab a coffee somewhere else before the tour starts - don’t! Starting at the pub gives time for a drink there.

If you only do one thing in Dublin make it this tour, its the best money and time you'll spend. Lorcan is a welcoming host and, by the end of the tour, a friend. I cannot commend the tour highly enough, Lorcan's knowledge of Irish Republican history is second to none and its an experience not to be missed. Towards the socialist Republic, from Martin and Sarah

Really enjoyed this tour and I would advise it to tourists and people living here who want to learn more about 1916. Lorcan was a brilliant guide and really insightful. Great knowledge imparted throughout the tour along with some good laughs. Highly recommended.

We arrived for the tour. Lorcan arrived for the tour, but he decided that since there were only two of us it was not worth his wild. We had travelled to see Dublin, planned our day around this tour, only for him to say sorry. Be warned.

I've recently returned from a two week trip to Ireland that was primarily a roots trip for my wife and three of her brothers. There were seven of us and without exception I followed the crowd doing whatever the consensus dictated. I’m not sure if my wife read about this tour before our trip or if someone noticed it when we lunched at the International Bar one day. Either way, since someone in my wife’s family was supposedly politically active about 100 years ago, it was decided that we go on the rebellion walking tour. Honestly, and I can write this because I know my wife doesn’t read my reviews, I was hoping we’d either be too late for the tour, or it would be full, as I was prepared to be bored silly.

We were on time and the tour wasn’t full. We met Lorcan on the sidewalk outside the bar and eventually everyone went to the basement where he started his presentation by asking questions and learning a little something about each of us. I won’t go into detail because I think other reviewers have captured the essence of the experience but Lorcan did an excellent job of personally connecting with the people on the tour and presenting his subject with some humor and those historical details that often get overlooked in scholarly works.
Even though I still can’t care less about the 1916 Irish rebellion, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and feel intellectually richer for having taken it. This is something that’s obviously unique to Dublin, Ireland and I recommend that it be at, or very near, the top of your list of things to do while there. While I’ve been promised nothing for a good review, and have no interest in the undertaking, I’m sure Lorcan will send me a free book once he reads this.

If you’ve found this review useful, I will greatly appreciate a “yes” vote below.

This tour is led by a left wing nationalist. I was expecting an historic tour not to hear someone's opinions. At the beginning of the tour, he announced he doesn't like Bono or Bob Geldof. What has this to do with 1916? He also made it very clear that he dislikes the Royal Family. I have no problems with people having opinions. Surely tourists should be allowed to make up their own minds based on historic facts. He should go on a tour in Belfast and see how the professional guides there do not give any opinions and as a result you are not aware of any allegiances, if any of these professional guides.

Myself and my partner enjoyed the 1916 Walking Tour so much that we plan to go again the next time we are in Dublin. In fairness it's a difficult subject to deal with....especially as we are British. The guide had a way of making us understand aspects of Irish history that I personally had difficulty grasping before. The ease with which the two hours passed made us want more. In fact the guide recommended that we go to Kilmainham Gaol which was also great. We bought a copy of a book that the guides from the 1916 Tour wrote (Easter Rising - cost ten euro I think but well worth it). The guide had plenty of anecdotes, jokes, facts etc. He'd no problem talking about anything that we wanted too and gave us time to reflect on the history of our two countries. We'd recommend this to anyone who is lucky enough to get to Dublin. Without a shadow of a doubt it was the best couple of hours we had on holiday not just in Dublin but in Ireland and maybe even ever! One more thing, some times when you are in Dublin it can feel very touristy. The 1916 Walk went way off the trail. We hit parts of the city that were not on the regular walks and bus routes - very different. By the way there were only about eight people on the tour. My partner asked if it was a new tour but it's been going for eleven or twelve years - they just seem to be the kind of people who don't care about being a huge success which we have to say is refreshing especially in Dublin.
