About Canal Boat Restaurant
Welcome to the Canal Boat Restaurant! Enjoy a delicious 3 course meal freshly prepared on board, from the finest locally sourced produce. Our eco-friendly, replica Guinness Canal Barge glides silently and smoothly along a beautiful stretch of Dublin's Grand Canal. We depart from Mespil Road (across from the Mespil Hotel) and cruise along a stunning tree lined stretch of the canal, past Georgian houses and under Georgian bridges. Watch as the lock keepers open and close the locks by hand, exactly how they were operated when the locks were first commissioned in 1798. Savour your pre-dinner drinks from our on board bar whilst watching the world go by.

I have pre-paid a dinner for two at the Canal Boat restaurant. Paid 98 EUR by credit card at end February. No reimbursement to this date. And they don't even respond to emails. DO NOT TRUST this company.

Definitely a must. We had our Christmas party last night on the canal boat. We were made feel very welcome. I personally didn't venture outside but some of our party did and said it was great to see another side of Dublin. Food was delicious and I would highly recommend.

I have no idea how this restaurant has any reviews above mediocre. I booked this dinner/barge cruise before we arrived in Ireland, it cost €49 each. We are a family of 4, so €196 is a bit hefty. I thought it would be worth it, a late Thanksgiving supper celebrating our being in Ireland. No libations came with our meals, we weren’t even offered coffee, tea or soda. I was shocked that wine and/or beer wasn’t included. We had water. My 3 course dinner started with puréed vegetable soup, just like the kind I had in every pub from Galway to Belfast. The second course was a chickpea and potato (soup?), with a side of rice. Lastly, dessert... An apple tart, but cake crust on top and bottom... The food was cafeteria chow, not good, not bad, just not worth €49! I’m embarrassed I spent so much money on a crappy supper because it was on an uninspired cafeteria barge ride. Seriously, eat at a fabulous Dublin restaurant and just have a cup of coffee while sitting by the canal. You will thank me....

Dear sebastiantravel4, We are extremely shocked to hear about your experience. We typically receive very positive feedback. As advertised, the experience includes a three course meal and two hour cruise along the Grand Canal at the cost of €49.00 per person. At no point do we mention/advertise that a drink is included in this fee. We also provide bottled water free of charge. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal or the vegetarian main course of Turmeric Chickpeas with Potato and Spinach. All of our food is freshly prepared on-board each day from the finest locally sourced produce by our expert chef. Our ticket price is intended to cover the cost of operating our eco-friendly barge, as well as the three course dinner. The experience is quite different from a meal in a land-based restaurant and the cost of delivering it is reflected in the ticket price. We are sorry not to have delighted you and your family the evening you were on board. If you could email us at info@canalboatrestaurant.ie with the date of your cruise, we will investigate further. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Warm Regards, Orla

We enjoyed the Canal Boat Restaurant. The food was good and the service was good, just that the server kept kicking the leg of my chair and that was a bit annoying. But other than that it was good.

Used a living social voucher for 3 course meal, was lovely food was very tasty. The whole experience was very nice, the skipper was William who gave a introduction of all staff. The restaurant itself was very cosy, unfortunately it was raining when we were on it but umbrellas was provided. Really enjoyable and something different.
