Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Silent Disco was amazing! Great tunes! Dance until I dropped. Dan and Tadhgh killed it! Yours sincerely, Honest Shane.

My hubby and I just landed in Dublin and wandered around. In our second night we just happened to walk into this place. We ordered some drinks and asked about who was playing that evening. It was a group called Imar. They were Scottish blokes who were trained in traditional Irish music. It was fantastic! There was an opener who we missed all but his last tune. We were there towards the end of February. It cost about 20 euros. I video taped them. Whelan’s has excellent bands. On our return from Galway, we went there again and met some fabulous people.

We were visiting from overseas and had been out for dinner having had a lovely evening. We wanted to see live music so walked about 30 mins in the rain and we heard Whelans was good myself, my husband and 2 boys 20 and 24 arrived at the door and a bouncer lady told the man that she didn’t want us in. She said my son who had had a Guiness with dinner was drunk ( it was a family evening and no 1 beer had not made him drunk) we assumed this was Irish humour and a joke but no it was not and spoilt our evening.

Bouncer was aggressive and rude. Didn’t let us in before saying anything, avoid this place. The rest of the city has great bars with friendly staff.

This is a really nice spot!
I came here last year in March 2022 but I was with friends. As I was here alone this year I decided to go here as I felt safe due to previously visiting here. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. As are the crowds that come here.
They have silent discos a few nights a week as well as offering other events such as comedy clubs.
This is a really nice spot for solo travellers and tourists as all is welcomed here!
Large range of drinks from beers to cocktails!
Overall the atmosphere is really pleasant!
I completely recommend this place to anyone who visits Dublin whether they are in a group or solo travelling! Absolutely wonderful people!!!

Great live music venue in Dublin. Live acts easy to see on stage plenty of staff serving drinks so no long wait time. Sound very good and great atmosphere.

Wanted to do something different while visiting Dublin and booked to see Gerry Fish (whom I had not heard of before). We were not disappointed by the experience and a great night was had by all, the drinks are reasonably priced and the bathrooms were clean. I would say take a chance and come and see a band here if you are visiting.

Can you take a camera into the music venue to take photos? Obviously no video recording allowed but I would like to grab some photos, if possible. Thanks!

Hi! I was thinking of booking tickets to a concert taking place here but before i do that i’m just wondering if this venue is 18+ and if people under the age of 18 can get in with someone over 18 (sorry if that’s worded horribly)

Not sure but I think it's 18+ only. .best to get in touch with them ...might depend on act and time of day and parental guidance etc.....sorry can't be exact
I am coming September 16, 2018 to see Home Free and I bought 2 VIP tickets and it says guarantee setting. Where are the seats since it is mostly a standing gig? If they are not in the front can you see the stage and how far away are they from the stage? I am not able to stand or walk very far. I’m crossing the pond to meet new twin grandkids and will see these guys again while I’m there. You are very fortunate to host Home Free because there is not any other group out there that preform like this group‼️

There is limited seating at this venue, a couple of seated booths downstairs to the side of the stage and some seating upstairs in the balcony area. If you need to sit during the performance then you need to arrive early as first come first served or seated as in this case.

Are there parking facilities near by? for a gig on sunday night?

Hi Vicky.
Just on street parking. Be careful though as they clamp until Midnight. Some streets nearby have a single line so parking is allowed after 7pm. New Bride Street is probably your best option that way as its close to the venue.

Hi there. We stayed at the Albany House and got a good deal. Clean and nice continental breakfast. From here it's about a ten minute walk to Wheelans I think. There are lots of places around though. Try ringing them direct for the best price.

Hi there, is it possible to just go here for a drink and food or do I have to buy tickets for a band? If so can i get tickets on the door? Thankyou

Thanks for your enquiry. We have a bar that opens every evening from 5pm and it's free in. We don't do food though. Tickets for a lot of shows will be on sale on the night. But it varies. Best to get in advance through our webpage to be sure..

If you have a party in the parlour bar on a Saturday night, is a dj provided? Or is there even music coming through speakers?
David A
Dublin, Ireland2 contributions
Hi Aine. Most people just plug an iPod with their own music/mix on it... But a DJ can be hired in if needed...
