WORST nightclub experience in my life! Went to Dublin for the weekend with my 2 sisters and 2 friends(1 had just flown in from London) we looked for things to do and found out the George was doing a drag show which we thought could be a fun time. We went to the George in storm Eunice with heels and dresses on, after 20 mins waiting in the rain (which we didn’t mind at first) the woman bouncer with short blonde hair kinda heavy build asked for our Id and asked one of my sisters were we here before? which she answered we weren’t ever here before she just refused us! At first we thought she was joking but before long we realised she was being serious, she wouldn’t give us a reason and when we asked for a manager she said she was one, to only a few mins later say there was none in.The actually manager then came down and backer her up. The bouncer was so rude to us! Me and my friends were mortified! It’s just one of the most baffling experiences I ever had especially when the group behind didn’t even look 18 and got in after we walked away. Would never go back and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone gay or straight. 😡

I went here with my husband on Saturday night. At the door my husband was asked if we had ever been to a gay club before, we are in our late 30s so the answer was yes. We started at the bar which was free entry. It was full people mostly over 50, which is fine but not our type of place. We had a drink and then left and paid €10 each to go up to the night club. The karaoke was fun and entertaining. The place is set up that you go upstairs and look down onto the stage. Afterword the karaoke was over the place got overly packed. I got overwhelmed by how crowded it was so stood off to the side as there is very little seating upstairs. He had some more drinks and after a few hours we were ready to leave. It sure on how to get out we went down a set of stairs to find the downstairs much larger with more seating but also packed. Going outside we thought we were exiting to find that we were in the courtyard that was also packed but slightly less. I felt a little better here but was still ready to go. We wondered for a minute and finally asked how to leave. Go upstairs and then take a hallway back to the small stairs that people were streaming into the place from. Bad setup for an exit. Not a terrible experience but overly crowded and too loud to talk.

On Sunday we went back for bingo but the security said it was regulars only night. Ended up at another bar where we met a guy from England that said he was at The George earlier and it was not very busy. He left because it was not really ‘popping’. How is someone who has never been to the bar before let in but some are told they can’t enter because it’s regulars only?

Don’t recommend this place on the busy nights because it’s too crowded and don’t recommend on the slow nights because they are likely to turn you away.

I’ve read a lot of the reviews and see many have been turned away for trivial reasons. Security is good to keep people in line but shouldn’t harm your business by turning paying customers away. This place lost out on at lease €100 from us.

I have been going about once every two months to The George for the last 30 years. As a mature Dubliner, I often see people being refused at the door. Tbh I am surprised the staff show so much consideration to drunken revellers who want to experience what it is like to go to a gay bar in Dublin. They are asked for ID to prove age and often produce clearly false items. Some arrive in footwear that are only suitable for the catwalk not a busy nightclub and bar. Others seem to think it is their God given right to enter the club as they identify as Gay. Some arrive in clothing that I wouldn't use doing DIY in my house let alone going on a night out. But all those refused think it is their right to be given a reason for refusal, unfortunately under law they have no such right and trying to prove discrimination is often nigh on impossible.

In general I travel about 15 miles to go to my "Local", The George, as I find all the staff, including the bouncers to be very welcoming. Most of the bar staff remember my order after they have served me a few times, it is a true godsend of a club to olders members of the Gay community and long may it continue and welcome me!!

Unfortunately security ruined my night at the George.

The drag performers we're next level. Thirsty Thursday // Davina was a show not to miss!! I loved all four of the drag performers and loved being called up on stage with them. Sadly I won't see another until there has been a change of management at this establishment. After the show, security was enforcing no drinks on the dance floor, which is a strange rule but their right to enforce. However, you do not have any right to grab a human being aggressively just to tell them to not have a drink on the dance floor.
This happened to me and I witnessed it to many other patrons.

My issue truly began when the male security guard with sleeve tattoo removed me from the club. I was smoking a pipe outside in the smokin area with a friend. Security guard asked if it was tobacco in my pipe and I responded "no" as that was the truth.
This man had no idea what I was smoking and he assumed it was marijuana. I carry legal CBD that does not contain any THC which I smoke for my severe anxiety. He did not say anything else and Without telling me where he was taking me he grabbed my pipe and gestured to follow him. He ultimately opened a door and told me with a huge Grin on his face that I was done for the evening. He did not allow me to retrieve my coat from the cloakroom and I had my phone and wallet inside with my friends. I had no way of getting them back until eventually a good Samaritan retrieved my friends for me.
Beyond unprofessional.

Go to Panti Bar for a fun night !! 😉

Group of friends were not allowed in after waiting 30 mins in rain. We asked why and security said that they didn’t want to insult us by telling us why. We were there for the karaoke show as were big fans. Understand that they don’t want many straight people into their club but they could have been more straightforward and told us that.

When we arrived the bouncer rudely refused to let us in without giving an explanation. He was very unfriendly and mumbled something about us needing tickets. We found their website which took forever to load and realized there was a show that night. We booked tickets online which were free and finally managed to get in. Inside the place was overcrowded, there was nowhere to even stand. We tried to get drinks at the bar but without success. The two barmen served everybody but us, a whole bunch of guys who came after us. Perhaps they are racist since my friend is black. After being ignored for nearly 30 minutes we left that unwelcoming place. Surely will never come back.

My friends and I had been coming here for about 10 years. However, I have noticed in the last year some of the security people have become incredibly obnoxious. They are constantly harassing people in the pub for no reason and shoving their weight around. Never have I seen this behaviour in any bar from security. This place used to be a friendly and inclusive place for gay people. It now seems to be lots of straight people. My friend was told to leave for no reason. Wouldn't go back again. The older blonde lady at the door is so horrible and rude as well as some of the new guys inside. We have stopped coming here. Such a shame.

I was absolutely appalled tonight at the behaviour of the bouncers at the door of the george tonight in Dublin City centre. My friends and I who are all legally able to drink and who are all members of the lgbt community went to the George tonight and were accused of being “too gay” and “I better watch myself” as a a result of my sexuality and two of my lesbian friends were accused of being too straight as they were walking in holding hands into the George. It was absolutely ridiculous behaviour and for a so called “gay accepting club” does not live up to its name. Very disrespectful and rude

I was put out by the bouncers because I said to someone that I was married, but because the guy was a "regular", they kick me out. When I asked why I was being kicked ou the bouncer said "you're too drunk". Proceed to push me, that's when I pushed him back and after that you can imagine what happened. Was put in the floor with no reaction, the Garda was called but of COURSE they let me go because I was not drunk. Worst gay place you'll go in Dublin. Highly recommend the pantibar or Allmyfriends.

Take me back to 2003! I know you can't live in the past but I want to... days when the security staff like the adonis John somehow recognised you and your 19 year old friends each week with a welcome.. I've been back from england a while now and been twice. Both experiences with the security were horific.. firstly WHY are they wearing balaclavas indoors? I was initially denied entrance on my own as full but i said ild wait to see was there no shows.. I waited 30 mins in the rain as group after group without booking was let in. When I asked I was told what did I expect it was a business and they were a group and i was on my own. Anyway they let me in eventually... the last night i was in some skinny bald tattoed bouncer came up and screamed at these youngsters who left their coats in front of a doorway... it was so aggressive and uncomfortable. They got their things and left the venue straight away. As with all the last posts security seem to be dire. Thank God for Davina and Veda and a bit of Spanish Lady, if you close your eyes you can remember the good times.
