The castle is undergoing restoration so you have to use your imagination more than at other historical sites in Ireland. But the staff are very friendly and accommodating. But if you've just come from Kilkenny or Blarney Castle then be prepared to adjust your expectations.

An easy bus ride from the Dublin center and the stop is right at the end of the street. The castle is a bit hidden behind schools but only a 2 minute walk from the stop. Check the opening times before you go, as it was only open till 1 pm on the day we went. Brian, the gardener, gave... More

We spent a very enjoyable hour at Drimnagh Castle this morning. Our guide, Charlie, was very welcoming and informative and all the staff on duty took the time to have a bit of craic with us as we passed through the castle and grounds. A lot of effort has been spent on restoring the castle and it is well worth... More

Hidden behind a pair of schools on, this hidden gem has been used as a location for the Tudors TV series - masquerading as the Tower of London. Guided tour gave great history of the building & the amazing work that went into the restoration.

Interesting place, restored and run by locals (used for filming Tudors series). Cozy place tucked away in an odd location. Definitely worth a visit if you aren't going to make it outside of the Dublin area as it is far more historic than Dublin castle and the current restorations are as good as any of the national sites, as far... The only CASTLE still be bee surrounded by a moat, Only a short bus ride from city center. Walk across the drawbridge into another world. Michael my guide was extremely knowledgable not only about the Castle but the incredibly beautiful 17th century formal gardens. A incredible experience of a long ago time - a beautiful relaxing visit. Well worth the... More

A lesser-known castle and small grounds, worth a trip as it's quite inexpensive and quiet (only a handful on the tour). It might be particularly good if you've seen Trim Castle as it shares a lot of details, but on a much smaller scale! The hall in particular has been very nicely restored. Some of the upper rooms are not... More

We were wanting to visit an authentic medieval castle while in Ireland, and this was the greatest find! For only €4.50 per person, we got a personal guided tour for our family. The staff were super friendly and had some great information to share. It is only like twenty minutes from the center of Dublin, and when walking up to... More
