Small castle and beautiful gardens make for a nice break in the city trip
entry is € 9 and it's a nice trip out of the city. We didn't have a tour guide, but had a printout. Nice little castle, 30 mins by bus, makes a nice break in a city trip. The gardens are lovely. Reservation only by phone which is a bit old fashioned, but ok.

    Hidden Gem of Dublin!
Hidden Gem! This was an inexpensive tour and a short trip from Dublin. If you want to see a castle with a real moat - this is it! From the lady on the phone who was so kind guiding us to the castle and then our very knowledgeable- historian/tour guide, we learned a lot today! This castle was a ruins and a work in progress castle that they are restoring. Our tour guide was interesting, personable and funny when telling us about the castle and educating us on the background of piecing together the history. Our tour guide also recommended lunch at the Halfway House, which had excellent food!

    Hidden Histories!
Myself and my parents spent a really lovely couple of hours here during an afternoon back in March. The Dutch guide (whose name I have forgotten- apols!) was a really enthusiastic historian providing some good background to the castle & its origins and also giving context to this castle's similarity with mainland European castles dating from the same period. It really is an unassuming gem, almost hidden right in the middle of Drimnagh. It's surrounding gardens are beautiful and the moate is quite special! Really quite a surprising find!!

    Fun Find!
This was sort of an accidental find for us. But I am so glad we found it. Everyone was so knowledgeable and I honestly feel like what we experienced was worth way more than the price of admission. The garden is also lovely and the gardeners also have an amazing breadth of knowledge. Do yourself a favor and check this castle out. You can only book reservations by making a phone call and they only accept cash.

    Highlight of trip
Amazing ! Not only do you get a personal guided tour but a snapshot into history that is accurate and well told and documented. Definitely worth checking out , it’s a small scale tourist attraction and off the beaten path and not loaded down with annoying tourists. The artists and craftsmen that invested their time and efforts to making it into a representation of history should be well appreciated and respected. Stepping in to the castle was an amazing experience and feeling of time forgotten. The staff are dedicated and well versed in the history of the castle and are committed to providing even more opportunities of learning and understanding of the historical aspects of the grounds.

The history of the castle and its restoration journey is fascinating, with lovely examples of historic and more recent skilled craftsmanship to admire. An intriguing surprise
This is truly a hidden gem, well worth visiting. The local community have led an amazing restoration of this historic place, there are so many layers of fascinating information to be experienced in the visit and guided tour. We were lucky to have Thomas, a local man with a strong connection to the castle and surrounding area, sharing his great knowledge and memories with us. You will not be disappointed!

Very authentic step back in time
I had a private tour with Thomas who’s knowledge of the history of the castle and gardens is in equal measure to his passion and love for the place. As a local it was very interesting to learn more about the history of my area and see the commitment of many volunteers and specialist trades that have worked on restoring it. For tourists it is a great opportunity to learn more about Irish history and get off the usual tourist trail but still easy to get to from Dublin City centre.

Staying with a friend in Dublin with a family connection to the castle, I had the pleasure of a guided tour, a delightful place still not commercialised retaining its charm and historical roots. Tommy was my guide, he has an extensive knowledge of the history of the castle and that coupled with his enthusiasm for the palace made for a really pleasant afternoon. Highly recommend a visit if you want to experience a hidden gem of Irish history

Highly recommended. We enjoyed our visit very much, our guide was full of knowledge and great anecdotes. The castle is very interesting and the gardens are beautiful. Its unfortunate that a lot of detailed information has been lost to time but very lucky the castle is still standing and a great piece of history that has been preserved for future generations
