Underneath the church are five long burial vaults containing the mummified remains of many of Dublin's most influential 17th, 18th and 19th century families, including the legendary Shears brothers and the highly decorated coffins of the Earl's of Leitrim. Since Victorian times visitors have descended the vault steps to see the mummies and Bram Stoker, creator of the "Dracula" stories is believed to have visited the vaults in the company of his family. In one vault can be seen the remains of the "Crusader" though in fact he is only 650 years dead. The early visitors to the vaults were responsible for many of the myths and legends surrounding the bodies, though modern scientific investigations have cast doubts on many of these stories. Nevertheless, a visit to the Crypts to see the historic mummies is a remarkable experience.

I'm so glad a Dublin native strongly recommended I go see this hidden gem! I loved that the tour guide was in character and seemed to know trivia about various countries so as to make us visitors feel special. The stories were very interesting, and...More

As old church with a few underground cribs look how well preserved the coffins and skeletons are And the guide puts on a great show to tell the history on the family’s buried here at the church

This is a church i walked past many a time without going in. Upstairs has lovely wooden architecture but downstairs was the business. A crypt that holds dead bodies. The skeletons do not deteriate and got the chance to touch one for luck. Lovely hidden...More

Myself and my teenage son had a couple of hours in Dublin before we went to the airport. We walked from Temple Bar over to this church and had an enjoyable thirty minutes or so guide of the old crypts under the church. It does...More

We had to wait a couple of minutes, before the guide came to take us to two crypts beneath the church. The guide has some standard frases about your nationality that are meant to be funny. The information he gives is super interesting. Must do.

This tour is well worth the price and I'd never even heard of the "Irish Mummies" before this. But the stories told and the catacombs you get to see are truly interesting.

The folks that take your money are very nice. The guide that talks about the mummies is nice and a good story teller. Not to be confused with a history tour. It is short and interesting. It is under ground so be ware and the...More

It was 3 or 4 Euros this year. Call ahead to make sure they'll have a tour guide available when you wish to go or you won't get to see the crypt.

Yes, there are tours throughout the day, never any formal times, just present yourself at the door and ask, you might have to wait no more than 30 minutes for a tour to start. Not sure when they close.
