Overview
More
Underneath the church are five long burial vaults containing the mummified remains of many of Dublin's most influential 17th, 18th and 19th century families, including the legendary Shears brothers and the highly decorated coffins of the Earl's of Leitrim. Since Victorian times visitors have descended the vault steps to see the mummies and Bram Stoker, creator of the "Dracula" stories is believed to have visited the vaults in the company of his family. In one vault can be seen the remains of the "Crusader" though in fact he is only 650 years dead. The early visitors to the vaults were responsible for many of the myths and legends surrounding the bodies, though modern scientific investigations have cast doubts on many of these stories. Nevertheless, a visit to the Crypts to see the historic mummies is a remarkable experience.

St. Michan's Church wasn't really the focus of the tour, it's the crypts. Yes, they are scary, but very fascinating. The tour guide gives a touch of humor to the tour and provides details on people who are laid to rest in the crypts. The...More

Whilst the church is not much to speak of, below are the crypts with open caskets exposing the mummified bodies which are interesting to see. Guide will take you down and share some stories. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

We got here around 4 in the afternoon. (Warning- the City Sightseeing blue bus ceases stopping at their St. Michan's stop around 3 or 3:30 so get off at stop 21 after that time). It was not crowded with tourists and the folks at this...More

Historic place - off the beaten path, but worth the find. Natural mummification - cool to learn about this.

This ghoulish experience is beyond fascinating. Some of the best crypts I have ever toured are at St. Michan's and also you can tour the church itself, but you can't see the crypts without a tour. Go!

The church itself was not elaborate or beautiful but the history of this church was interesting. We took the crypt tour, and our guide acted like Egor as he showed us the inside of the crypts. It was chilling to know that Bram Stoker visited...More

We showed up at the end of the day on a whim having finished up at Jameson and waited in the church for the tour guide. I was happy to pay the fee to help support the church. The crypts are truly crypts..you enter through...More

I went for the crypts. It was about 8 euro. I loved the quick tour and the crypt was amazing. The guide was great- he reminded me of Dylan Moran with his humour. He was very informative, though I had done some research on the...More

Was told at the leoricorn museum (also a must visit) to have a look at this church and tombs, as there were mummies that could be viewed. Was a bit spooky and the gentleman taking us round was pretty intense, but we'll worth the visit,...More

It was 3 or 4 Euros this year. Call ahead to make sure they'll have a tour guide available when you wish to go or you won't get to see the crypt.

Yes, there are tours throughout the day, never any formal times, just present yourself at the door and ask, you might have to wait no more than 30 minutes for a tour to start. Not sure when they close.
