This is a beautifully kept cemetery full of history. Some sort of guide is necessary. I have been twice. The First time a few months there were no guides of any kind. This time the 'live' guide formour time slot fell ill so we had the option of the audio tour. It was just enough but overhearing an earlier tour made it clear a human guide really would bring history to life. Useful access via a gate to botanical gardens roo.

The Irish History tour was so enlightening and really showed the significance of Daniel Connolly and Michael Collins in Irish history as well as many others. Very eye-opening and well done! The history of the grounds in the museum exhibit was also fascinating.

This would be a great place for an initial deep dive into 20th century Irish history. Our guide Neal, who moonlights as a history teacher gave a knowledgeable and engaging monologue on Irish history as it relates to the heroes and martyrs that are buried at Glasnevin. He gave one of the best “answers in a nutshell” about the treaty that led to the 11 month Civil War. (Pass the salt you traitor.) Well worth the time. Easy to get to. Skip the cafe, high prices and food that’ll get you into Glasnevin quicker then onto your next destination.

Loved this tour and our guide, Ultan, was a fountain of knowledge. Ultan gave us a great detailed overview of the history of the place and he was very informative, helpful and pleasant. Well worth going on this tour!

Our guide Niall was just wonderful. Full of anecdotes, great knowledge of the history of the Cemetery and he painted great pictures of Daniel O'Connell, Michael Collins and more. We found out about the Great Hunger, Typhus and more.

One unfortunate picture I noticed and which depressed me was the use of herbicide in keeping the graves in good condition. This is not the way to do this and it is out of step with Ireland's Climate Change Programme. Stop it now! And find other more appropriate and sustainable ways to keep the cemetery in good condition.

I climbed the O'Connell tower. My first time to so. Well maintained and the stairs is a credit to the people who undertook the work. I noticed that there are significant cracks in wall and I wonder if this needs to be attended to and if it is a danger to those climbing and the people in the vicinity of it?

We had a guide called Ultan. He was excellent - he spoke very clearly, his talk was beautifully paced. He was knowledgeable, articulate, good humoured and clearly enthusiastic about the subject matter. It is such a fascinating place and I learned so much and will definitely go back for more when next in Dublin.
