I never realised that DUBLIN translates to Blackpool in Gaelic. Therefore, the name "Dublin" refers to the black water that is underneath the castle foundations. You can visit the Roman remains on the guided tour of the buildings where you can see what is left...More

Thanks so much for visiting and leaving us a review, Donna! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your guided tour and experience here in Dublin Castle. Just to note - the ruins are medieval (Viking and Anglo-Norman), and not Roman, the Romans never...More

So glad we took this guided tour! We skipped the castle on our previous visit and were anxious to not miss it this time. Our guide was engaging and informative. The state apartments are beautiful. I so enjoyed seeing the chapel and learning about the...More

Not really a castle, more like a stately home but none the less still worth a visit. The rooms are exquisitely decorated and worthy of any royal palace. We didn't take the guided tour but tagged onto one if there was something particularly interesting to hear...More

Funny, other reviews seem underwhelmed, but I really enjoyed the tour! We did pay for the 1 hour tour, which included the excavation of the old Viking ruins below the castle, which is not included in the self guided tour, and that was the highlight...More

My husband and I did the self-guided version of the tour (3 euros cheaper). I thought it would be an audioguide, but the admission fee basically just covered license to wander the exhibit at your own pace, reading the informational signs in each room. I'm...More

Had a one hour guided tour. Very much recommend it. Very good overview of the history of the castle and the remains of the fortress. The exterior is not very Castle like, but the inside is much more.

Dublin Castle has lockers for backpacks, but we cannot accommodate anything that will not fit - small cabin-sized suitcases are usuall okay.
