Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

Very large with lots of rooms - some had furniture and some didn't. Throne room and dining room were exquisite. All rooms had history of room and portraits. Loved the portraits of Albert and Victoria - the folks who did the recent TV special did...More

We were in Dublin celebrating my partners 40th and thought we would pop along. We got the city sight seeing hop on hop off bus to the castle - the entry price was a reasonable 7 euros each for the self guided tour which was...More

The great thing about Dublin Castle was a lack of any significant line to get in. The outside looked impressive. The inside was nice as well, but it was extremely small as compared to other royal residences that I have toured. It's an ok attraction...More

Well worth a visit. We self guided round here. Perhaps thinking back we should've done the guided tour but hey we learn from that as their were plenty of questions we could've and would've asked. Self guided takes around half an hour inside, guided about...More

The guided tour of Dublin Castle was a fascinating insight into all eras of Irish History, from the Vikings to the Easter Uprising. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour takes you to areas in the palace grounds you can’t go to...More

We self-guided. Given that the range of rooms available to visit is limited I think that the 7 euro price is reasonable. It’s not amazing but for the price it’s a nice 30 minutes.

We particularly liked looking at the artworks in each of the rooms, the fresco's on the roof of the great hall are spectacular. The dining room was grand

Thanks so much for visiting and leaving us a review! The ceiling paintings by Vincenzo Waldré are a particularly popular feature, although in fact they are not frescoes, but oil paintings on canvas that were lifted up on to the ceiling!

Had a great couple of hours at the castle and took the guided tour. You don't have to take the guided tour but is well recommended. The guides are very well informed and always willing to answer any questions.

I had expected to see a bit more from Dublin Castle. But I suppose most of the castle has been converted to administrative offices. There is a Watchtower with still stands, but is currently under restoration. Nice to see but I wouldn't go out of...More

Dublin Castle is a must see while in Dublin. Unfortunately our experience with the guided tour was disappointing. The scheduled guide didn't arrive, with the stand in person seemingly put out to take the tour, which reflected on the quality of the experience. We were...More
