Rated as one of the most popular attractions in Dublin, a visit to the Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship and Famine Museum will intrigue and fascinate all ages. Over 1 million people left Ireland during the 1840s at the height of the Great Famine, fleeing starvation and hoping for a new life in America. This mass emigration created a huge diaspora of people with Irish ancestry in the Americas, and later in Australia. The life-size wax figures in the museum below deck on the Jeanie Johnston are all modelled on actual passengers who made the journey to North America on the ship. Daily tours begin AT THE SHIP which is located on Custom House Quay just downriver from the International Financial Services Centre and across the road from Jury's Inn Hotel.

Brings to life the troubled times in Irish history. The story is amazing. Captain cared for the safety and wellbeing of his passengers. No fatalities on this ship versus tragedy on so many others.

This ship tells the story of Ireland's horrible period of famine during the mid 1800's. The ship haboured in Dublin is a remake that was built in around 1998 and was launched in 2000. The ship is exact replica as you can get. They spent a lot of time on the details making sure it was rebuilt true to form.... More

The ship looks great from the quayside. But once you go inside you realise it is a mock ship and below deck resembles a run down barn. The guide was rude when we asked some questions.

This is a replica of a famine ship that they sometimes called coffin ships. It depicts the terrible plight that the Irish suffered having to travel abroad! Our tour guide was informative and enlightening about the era!

This tour was worth the money and parking across street behind hotel for $3.50 euros/hr. The wife enjoyed the tour as it is short but informative.

This was a very interesting tour and we gleaned a huge amount of information about what happened with the famine and when transportation was occurring as well as the excellent quality of seamanship by the captain of this ship. He lost no passengers to disease over the 7 trips to undertaken.

A lot of details told about immigration and the famine ships. Sitting inside the cabin youget an idea how it was to cross the tlantic in such a nutshell.

Really enjoyed our tour of Jeanie Johnston! Our tour guide was very informative and engaging. The subject matter is fairly sad covering the famine ships taking people to their new lives in America but there are uplifting sides to the story too! Its a great tour to do if you dont have too much time to spend in the city... More

I enjoyed visiting your museum; unfortunately, there are not accessible for deaf and hard of hearing visitors to obtain information relating to the famine history of ship. Can you provide captioning or subtitles on videos or handheld device in sign language to provide the information to the guests on the ship?
