Fantastic storytelling experience, respect the mythic realm of the ancestors!
Johnny is a fantastic storyteller and entranced us with his voice....his dynamics, expressiveness, and suspenseful pauses hooked us into the mystical feel of the Irish landscapes and thoughts of the people, how stories shaped their history and informed their daily lives. We left with the message, respect the faeries and the mystic realm, even if you don’t believe....but we did and still do! The basement room at the Stag’s Head pub was the perfect spot to gather, and Johnny had everything organized with taking tickets and assigned seats. He is a treasure and this was a fantastic experience, before or after dinner, with a pint or two...now to read more!!

    Amazing evening of Irish stories
I loved the stories. They gave insight into the world of Irish folklore and the impact it still has on society and the way our kids are brought up. It also gives you information about the story telling culture and how it differs from our current media consumption culture. Johnny, the storyteller also made me feel welcome by greeting me personally and chatting a bit about my travels and my home country. I certainly recommend going!

This is a genuine and important way to experience Irish culture
This was a terrific experience. I attended with my two teens and 11 year old and everyone loved it. I cannot recommend enough. I only wish there was a chance to attend a longer experience, it was so captivating and informative. This is a definite yes. For background: we travel to Ireland regularly to visit family and have some familiarity with the country and culture. When we visit, I am always looking for meaningful experiences for my children to help deepen their connection. This storytelling evening was so spot on -- it touched on important spiritual and mystical history while tying it to the present. I think we will all be reflecting on the stories we heard and ideas presented for a long time.

    Feast of stories
In the three weeks I spent in Ireland, this evening of playful, energetic and imaginative storytelling rates among my favorite memories. Myths and fairytales woven into a deep appreciation of our shared connection to a place. The size of the space was perfect for an intimate setting and the storyteller was a master at pulling the attendees together. Also Stag’s Head is in the koolest little alley and before the storytelling I had a fun chat with the barman while drinking a pint. Good vibes all around.

    Immersive and fun evening!
If you are thinking you might enjoy this experience and wondering whether to book... do it! We had such a fantastic evening. We grabbed a drink at the bar before heading downtairs where Johnny warmly welcomed us and showed us to our seats. The stories were so meaningful and really helped us to embrace so much of Irish culture, myths and folklore, as well as the love of a good story. Johnny was a fantastic host and really knows how to captivate a crowd! He also very kindly emailed out resources and stories after the event for us to look into further. This was one of the best things we did on our trip and would wholeheartedly recommend it.

    Great Tales of Ireland!
This was a great addition to our first night in Dublin. Even my 2 sons (13,18) enjoyed it. Our storyteller, Johnny, was great and we really enjoyed talking with him. Our only regret was we wish we had arrived just a little earlier to eat some toasties at the Stag’s Head before the storytelling began. The Stag’s Head is a beautiful and historic pub right in the center of Dublin. Loved it and highly recommend!

    Fantastic folklore evening
A couple of hours in a cosy Irish pub with an enthralled group of strangers captivated by the explanations of folklore and stories. Johnny told us about the faerie folk, the underworld and the history behind these longstanding belief systems, and how they impact on life today. The group was captivated by his natural manner and in depth knowledge, and as Johnny said himself, ‘listening to stories activates a primal part of the brain’ as this is how our ancestors would have share and passed down information.’ The energy in the room was warm and comforting with humour and delight.

    Fascinating Pub Experience
Highly recommend this tour if you are interested in Ireland and the power of legends. Johnny kept us all on the edge of our seats with his stories of olden times. Interesting and fun. This is set in a very convenient location to Temple Bar and in a snug setting. Order your ale and settle in!

    Whimsical and captivating experience!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this unique and magical evening! It was such a treat to learn more about the history, folklore, and stories that are central to Irish history and traditions. Johnny exudes a welcoming energy and has an endearing way of inviting listeners into the stories with his passion, insight, and the twinkle in his eye. It was an immersive experience and the stories lived on within us, long past the event!

This was a really fun afternoon activity and way to learn more about Irish history and culture in a fun, easy going environment. The story teller was great and also a good conversationalist, had good tips for other parts of our trips, etc. We did it at the very end of our trip just because of how things worked out and when we were in Dublin. However if you have the flexibility, it would be nice to do at the beginning of your trip as an introduction to Irish culture!

This was the second time i attended this evening of storytelling. And I’ll visit again whenever I'm in town. The stories are shared with so much joy. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time. I heard some of my favorites along with a new story or two. I took my partner and wasn’t sure he was gonna enjoy. And yet, he did, very much. Great time of day as well, just before dinner time.

Johnny was very engaging and gave great insight into the Irish culture and the art of storytelling. So much of what we learn is about the prolific characters in history. His aim is to introduce us to the regular everyday people. Lovely evening!

Set at the Brazen Head, Ireland's oldest public house, the three of us enjoyed the setting and the food. But the best part of the evening were the tales and the music. We stepped into the past and were regaled with stories of old and music to accompany them. Wonderful evening! We would do it again if we have the opportunity to return to Ireland (we hope we do!). (we actually visited in 2012 and still felt compelled to review this event)

A tourist trap. Nine years ago, we went to The Brazen Head legends and music night. THAT was amazing. It included dinner and drinks, and the atmosphere was perfect: a well-lit, friendly place for legends, music and fairy tales. Here, at The Stag's Head, it's the opposite. Since you arrived, you're unwelcomed by rude employees and bartenders. We asked them if the "performance" was upstairs or downstairs. No reply. Once you figure it out on your own, the place looks depressing. They didn't even turn on the lights from the joint. And the performer was a nice person, but his storytelling resulted plain, standard: a memorized monologue about Irish tales and folklore. In one word, boring. Plus, this venue must be the only place in Ireland where no beer is sold: you have to bring it from the rude-employees pub. No, thanks. Save your family and yourself some money (50+ Euro for 2 people) and avoid this obscure trap.

Hi Alonso. I am so sorry to hear you did not enjoy the evening with us. I will address the issue about unfriendly staff wih the bar and sincerest apologies for this. I was upset to hear you found the show boring as I have been presenting it for many years and normally guests enjoy the fascinating insights into Irish folklore that I share with them during the evening. I am sorry this was not your experience and hope you enoyed the rest of your time in Dublin,

The Stags Head Pub where we met was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a beer & then headed upstairs for the advertised 1 1/2 hr show. In actuality the show started 15 minutes late, had a 15 minute intermission and ended 15 minutes early. There was barely 45 minutes of entertainment, and the gentleman reciting the tales was average at best. Definitely not worth your time or money in Dublin!!

I am so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the evening with us . The evening involves 2 presentations that are 25 minutes each with a break in between . We find that 25 minures for each session is enough to hold peoples attention without going on too long and then usually people stay back stay back to ask questions . I hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Dublin.
