Four of us went to see this on the Bank Holiday weekend. It is wonderful. This one man show really brings you in Ulysses Dublin. It is a slight shock to exit the bar and come out to modern day Dublin. Robert is a skilled...More

Hi 'purpleiris26', thank you for your kind review. I would agree with you that The Stag's Head Bar is so authentic and Victorian and when you combine its atmosphere with my show it's easy to forget the Real World outside. I feel that very little...More

Hi Tillynero, thank you for your very kind review. I fully agree with you about the Stag's Head pub. It has always been one of my favourite pubs in Dublin. The interior has been used as a backdrop in many periodic films - it's not...More

Best way to approach James Joyce’s unreadable novel, Ulysses. Very entertaining and a hoot watching him play snippets of multiple characters while explaining the plot twists and turns. Even jet-lagged, we were glad we decided to go to this little theatre in the basement of...More

Hi Jen R, thank you for your kind review. The Stag's Head is a great venue for me - it's so intimate and cosy - the ideal place to gather people around to tell a great story: the story of Leopold Bloom's wanderings around Dublin...More

From the dizzy height of Sandycove’s Martello tower to the very depths of Molly Bloom’s most secret desires, Robert Gogan’s one man show in the Stag’s Head is a fast-paced roller coaster ride through the pages of Ulysses and the characters that reside there. Being...More

Hi philokIreland, thank you for your detailed and very observant review of my show. You are quite correct to point out that Ulysses - all 732 pages of it - is basically about ordinary people doing ordinary things on a very ordinary day in Dublin...More

Robert Gogan brings Ulysses to life in this wonderful one-man show. Not only does he provide valuable tools to understanding the books and its many complex characters but gives an insight into Joyce himself. And the insight was that Joyce wrote his book to have...More

Robert Gogan's masterful one-man show canters through the book in a tightly-paced 75 minutes, giving each character by turn a burst of vivid life. His portrayal of pub loudmouth The Citizen is a special treat. Throughout, he spotlights the book's unashamed delight in rude humour...More

Hi Paul, thank you for your kind review. You have described Joyce's portrayal of the human race in "Ulysses" very accurately - messy, flawed and hopelessly glorious! The characters in "Ulysses" fall comfortably into one, or all, of these categories (don't we all!). I agree...More
