About
Experience life as a prisoner in a guided tour with a difference at Lifford Old Courthouse. Learn about law and disorder as you are charged, sentenced and fingerprinted and shown your new surroundings. You won't just be told about the cramped conditions, the painful punishments and the disgusting diet, you'll get to experience them for yourself. Fun informative and unlike anything you've seen before, this is a guided tour with a difference and perfect for all ages. Think you have what it takes to escape from a locked cell in just 60 minutes? Well there's only one way to find out and that's to take on JAILBREAK. Jailbreak is a live escape room that challenges you to break out of our cell before time runs out, using only the items you find in the cell itself. Working as a team you must put all the pieces of the puzzle together in order to escape or a deadly fate awaits you! If you're looking for something different, then this is the game for you. Younger prisoners can even try it for themselves with our exciting Junior Jailbreak room, suitable for age 8+.

Fantastic experience down to the tour guide Patrick and his ‘friends’. Patrick is charismatic and highly knowledgeable as well as funny. The tour took around 45 mins which flew in with the perfect mix of immersive theatre and history which was delivered with enthusiasm. Well worth every penny and more. Can’t wait to bring some friends back for the escape room experience!

Started our trip at the cafe which was fantastic. We had a 9 month old with us and the staff were so accommodating when we asked for something off-menu for him. Staff were incredible and stopped for a chat which made us feel so welcome. We asked if there were any tour spaces available, there wasn't but they said they can show us around the jail cells for no charge. We thought this was going to be a quick 10 mins but we were properly shown around and it honestly felt like a full tour, it was absolutely perfect for us with our 5 year old and 10 month old. The tour was absolutely fantastic, so informative and the staff are so passionate about what they do. Thanks so much we can't wait to come back. Be sure to read the white wall with facts on it at the end, it's really well done and very funny!

This is a wee gem - it is a guided tour with the tour guide taking the role of several characters. It is informative and entertaining our kids 7,6,4,2 all enjoyed it especially the fingerprinting, school room and the last room with the costumes and photo opportunities. The kids haven't stopped talking about it since we left today-thank you!

Hi Tina! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us such a great review. We're delighted that you enjoyed our Halloween show - we work very hard to make it fun for all ages! I'll be passing on your kind words to all the staff - to those in the bistro, the make-up & costume team and the actors in the dungeons! Thanks again :)

Our visit started with lunch in the restaurant which was well priced and very tasty. The guide made the tour of the old gaol really interesting providing a real sense of the past and how people were treated. I'm sure children would enjoy the photo opportunities and would come away with a sense of history. For anyone from the area there is a wonderful photographic display of historic photographs of the local towns - they might see someone they know! Well worth a visit.

Recently, I took my two grandsons, aged 8 and 6 to visit the Old Courthouse in Liffiord. I was particularly interested in making this visit as I had previously worked as a teacher in prisons in the UK. To begin with i wasn't sure how my two oldest grandsons would react, but we all enjoyed the visit tremendously and spent almost two hours having an exclusive tour.
Patrick, our guide was brilliant and managed to provide us with information whilst engaging both of my grandsons through role play activites related to the old court history / events
I would encourage others to visit the Old Courthouse whilst in the area. Whilst enjoyable and educational, it was also good value.

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to leave us such a positive review. We love hearing about our youngest prisoners enjoying themselves on our tours. We don't know what it is, but they seem to absolutely love getting arrested! So glad to hear you enjoyed it and I will definitely pass on your kind words to Patrick.

'This is Lifford', the bus driver said, 'Are you sure you want to go there?' I was the only passenger to alight. As I walked along the deserted street, I began to wonder. The only building of note was the Old Courthouse in the town square. The staff coffeeing inside made me very welcome. I was led down to the cells & left to explore. Wow! Dimly lit corridor with cells along one side. Then groaning, clanking noises started as I hesitantly pushed open a creaking cell door to confront a very realistic model of a despairing prisoner. I won't spoil the experience by giving details but how glad I am that I got off the bus in Lifford. Kids will (probably) love being so scared.

We spent a few hours here on a rainy day and really enjoyed it! The staff were absolutely lovely, and they looked after us so well. We had coffee first and ordered food, then did the escape room, coming back up to be served our food. The food was great- well cooked and hearty. Escape room was fun, mostly a box & lock based puzzle, with lots of layers to work out. A second puzzle is going live imminently, which sounds amazing. The tour also looked fab, but it had stopped raining so we decided to go outdoors again.

Went here today with my community association as part of the summer scheme with a group of kids age 8-12year old. We had a fab time and kids loved the experience, the staff are so friendly, kids loved the jailbreak staff. Would highly recommend a visit and even if not for the jailbreak go for some tea and treats.

Had a great time here with family and we tried our hand at the escape room. Very well done and I would recommend both the escape room and tour of the old courthouse!
