Took the Tory Ferry from Magheroarty, journey taking about 50 minutes - this island is one of the most amazing gems in Ireland - the people are friendly, the chat is flowing, the walks around the island are great, long enough but not too long - historically and culturally Tory Island is up there! From the Tau cross as you land on the island to the round tower to holy well (if you're having problems with rats!) to the Club to the chat...you'll love it and want to come back and stay longer!

This is a lovely island but the boat journey is not very pleasant at times - rough going out and ok coming back in. Plenty of Corncrakes. There are nice walks - the lighthouse is on one direction and the cliffs which are spectacular are a different direction. Plan to visit again if possible.

Amazing crew on this ship - couldn’t rate them highly enough - super bunch of lads who are very genuine and friendly. They helped my son in a wheelchair on and off the ferry and he was delighted to get to Tory and get to see his first Corncrake yesterday - amazing day and this island is well worth a visit - is breathtaking.

If you like friendly people, quiet open spaces and great walks Oileán Thoraí is the place for you. Take the Tory Ferry you will be there in just under 1 hour. You will find a nice hotel serving lovely food. There are one or two coffee shops and a shop on the island too, Bird watching heaven. The elusive Traonach (Corncrake) will serenade you at night. At the western side of the island the majestic cliffs keep the Atlantic Ocean at bay.

Easy to book and pay. Confirmation is sent by email. I emailed just before going on my road trip to make sure that a print of the receipt was enough to get on the ferry and got a very prompt from Niamh that indeed itcwas enough, which brought me peace of mind.
Staff on board are lovely!
The island is beautiful, the locals super friendly and the views incredible!
Roger Casement had very good taste to go and practice his Gaeilge on Tory!

We decided to take a day trip to Tory Island off the north Donegal coast & the ferry crossings are just a couple of times per day due to the lengthy crossing & also depending on the time of year. It really took just short of 1 hour as the weather was quite rough. That's the thing about the sea crossing there, the currents in the sound between islands & mainland is so strong, but we believe the waters are not always quite so choppy. Before we got onto the boat we were temperature checked for Covid, which we found very reassuring. The crew were brilliant, as the crossing was so turbulent they checked on everyone a couple of times to make sure we were ok, which we thought was exceptional. They were very friendly & helpful & one crew member even attended to a seasick baby with ease. The island itself is very different from any other island we have ever been on around Ireland! It's wild & barren & the growth is really sparse. The winds were wild on the day but the scenery was majestic with high cliffs, sea stacks & caves abound along the north facing coast, which is accessible on the eastern end of the island. At certain times of the year many sea birds can be seen nesting along the cliffs. On the western side of Tory stands the lighthouse & you can walk the length of the island within the day. It's an experience we would not have missed! The one hotel is under new management & the very friendly lady in charge greeted everyone from the ferry & a roaring turf fire & refreshments were available. There is also another bar/lounge/music venue, about 300metres along the narrow road to the west named The Club & the barman is really friendly & helpful here too. They also serve a large selection of lunches/snacks/drinks & the windows on one side of the bar face out to the wild Atlantic towards America, with thousands of km between here & there. We would definitely go back again as it was so different & something you just have to experience for yourself! Just be sure to check the ferry times beforehand, as they can be cancelled on certain days if the weather is just too bad, for safety reasons.

Tory island!! One night is not enough and I was crying on the pier as we left after the 2nd (unplanned) night!! We wanted to just stay forever actually!
Ferry! If you arrive with luggage, sailors transform into porters! Superb views, friendly staff who jump off the pier in between 2 sailings! Aye.. Aye.. captain!
Hotel! Cosy out, staff out of this world always trying to make us happy.. relaxed homely atmosphere and attitude.
Island: Mind blowing coastline, non stop music, massive smiles and don't expect to get to bed the same day that you woke up..
Healthcare: I had to get to see the nurse for something and top notch professionalism..
Endless supply of music and entertainment..
Weather: 26*, came home sunburnt from the sun
Great stay, too short indeed! I ll be back!

My nephews and myself travelled to Tory Island yesterday with Tory Ferry. Great crossing and we were in the hands of Peter who seems very knowledgeable and capable for this crossing. Fantastic visit both on and off the island. Definitely worth a visit 💕
