- Sophie M26 contributionsGreat food, fun to browseI had an excellent experience here. The market is such an interesting place. I loved walking around and seeing all the different products. Of course, things aren’t cheap, but I wasn’t expecting them to be. I highly recommend stopping at Cafe Marius—I had an excellent Irish breakfast there for a reasonable price. The people working were lovely as well. Overall I definitely think the English Market is worth a stop.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 February 2023
- PandFBWirral, United Kingdom383 contributionsA piece of history in the centre of Cork! This place reminded me of the old market in Liverpool with the sights and smells that made it so interesting and inviting. I would say it’s a must-see place in Cork, especially if you’re a fan of “the Young Offenders” TV series which features O’Connell’s fish stall. We visited the Farm Gate Café up the stairs on two separate occasions, both of which allowed us to people watch those below sauntering through the market. I can understand some who might be disappointed expecting more but that overlooks the history of this place. Some of the foodstuffs on offer looked really scrumptious and I’m sure that for locals it is the place to go for really fresh produce!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2023
- jxx95951,464 contributionsMildly photogenicWe are big fans of markets, but we were slighty disappointed with Cork's Market. It was a middlijng market overall. Markets that appeal to lower end shoppers are raw and more interesting. I'm thinking here of the City Market in Lima Peru. Markets that appeal to high end shoppers are striking in another way. I'm thinking here of the Victor Hugo Market in Toulouse France. The Cork Market was right in the middle. Nothing wrong here by any means, but it was just not as photogenic as the others I mentioned. To be clear, we came to photograph not to eat.Visited May 2023Written 9 May 2023
- Heidi RNew York City, New York35 contributionsFantastic Food Hall that will not disappoint! We arrived with high expectations and loved it. Great range of food vendors with great local produce and warm conversation. We particularly went for cheese and breads...and were delighted in the days that followed with our purchases. It was one of the reasons we went to Cork...so don't miss this!Visited June 2023Written 24 June 2023
- john oAustralind, Australia6 contributionsJust amazingAMAZING From staying in Blarney we were recommended to stop here while in Cork City. This place was amazing. Fabulous selection of fresh fish, meats, chocolate, pates , bread and oils and flowers. Unfortunately we wanted to buy everything but we couldnt as we were not able to eat everything.Visited June 2023Written 18 August 2023
- efgBerlin, Germany24 contributionsNice market worth a walk throughNot a bad little indoor market but nothing sticks out. Lots of shops for meat, fish, etc, and a couple cute coffee shops or sandwich joints. Somewhat small, slightly charming, it was a nice walk through but unless you have a way to clean and cook a fish there’s not much there for a visitor.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 September 2023

Fun open-indoor food hall with a wide variety of fresh/packaged/prepared foods, goods & services, with some unique stalls. Very crowded on weekends, with long lines for the cafe upstairs.

All the stalls were fun and steeped in rich history. Would definitely recommend for a trip to Cork City but not as much to see as we had hoped. We went by ourselves but I imagine a guided tour would be very interesting. The food there was okay, nothing spectacular. No complaints

We arrived late in day when most of the shops were closing up. Had hoped there would be more goods vs. foods. But did buy the best chocolates there!

What we enjoyed was eating oysters fresh from the market. The 2nd floor dining offers good food but menu changes every hour.

Idk. Sorry, I’m from Austria. You should ask someone from Cork. But I would say, yes! 🙂
Hi. Is the market open Easter Monday.

Hi, I cannot be 100% certain, but last year it was closed Easter Sunday and Monday, so I'd imagine this year would be the same.

When's the best time to go (ten, noon, four)? Is it better to go when things are the most lively or when it's a little quieter?

Oh, I have no idea.
We just stopped in Cork on our way from Kilnarey to Dublin.
We got there around noon time (I think). It was crowded on that Wednesday afternoon, but not oppressive.
But I imagine week-ends would be hectic. They have restaurants upstairs and shopping nearby, so I'm sure they stay busy.

Are there any types of foods you cannot bring back to the US from Ireland? We were told continuously all through Italy that the sausages and cured meats we bought could be taken back to the states, only to have them confiscated at customs in the US.

Vacuum packed might get them through, but otherwise no chance.
