You'll want to spend all afternoon here! The tour is self-guided but so informative! There is os much to see on the grounds and it was one of the most interesting places I saw on the trip!

An informative look at the prison, known by locals as the Women's Prison, but it also housed men throughout its history. A guided tour is recommended, with leisure time after to explore on your own.

We stopped off here on the Hop on Hop off bus tour and so glad we did. Was so interesting reading about the various prisoners and what they were in for and how long they stayed, is definately a must visit if you go to Cork

Overall it was a good experience. Need to have the headset with the storytelling, otherwise it’s just a walk around an old jail. I was expecting to see more of the place, but it was fine overall. I think to improve visits, you could have an interaction Kiosk where you display the names of the people who stayed there and see their stories. It’s helpful in the sense of your visiting Ireland from abroad and wanted to see if your surname was ever listed as an inmate. Not that one is related to that inmate, but it’s an interaction for the guests.

Well kept and informative, also scary enough to keep you on the straight and narrow. There are many stories about previous prisoners to read around the jail as well as the governor. The prisoners were weighed when they entered and then every now and then to ensure that they were not stealing food from others and that no one was taking their food.

Walked here from the city centre, great views over the city. This is a little gem of cork history and although it is beautifully kept now, i would imagine, conditions were harsh when the prison was open. Great interaction and informative. Lovely little gist shop.

This was part of the many attractions we visited on our trip to Cork City on 18 April.

From the outside walls when one stops & parks outside(free parking) it does not look like much but certainly worth the 10 euros , self guided tour - paper self guide which is very easy to use by following the number sequence which is also quite clearly marked at each station within the jail. As you enter there is also someone to assist you should you not be sure of what to do.

The self guide pamphlet gives you details of each station & insight into some of the reasons why people went to jail including a 9 yr old which was quite sad.

Towards the end there is an interactive quiz which gives you further insight into prison life.

Once you leave the building you then have an opportunity to walk around the outside . There are bathrooms on site but I did not see a cafe/coffee shop. The jail opens at 10am & it was better than we expected

Very interesting and informative, with an insight to life in those times. The setup is very well done and interactive (our 7 year old grandson enjoyed it).

Very accessible look back at a difficult history. Victorian justice was tough. This old prison doesn’t pull punches and is clear about life inside. Easy to see and self guide. Very helpful staff

Very interesting tour although I must admit I do love a tour of an old jail! Staff were very friendly and it wasn't too busy which was nice. Only draw back.. that walk up the hill!!
