About
Céad Míle Fáilte A Hundred Thousand Welcomes! Welcome to Cork City Walks. We look forward to meeting you on one of our friendly, informative, leisurely walks around our beautiful and charming city. We encourage interaction and banter as we seek to share with you our love of Cork, its unique history, friendly people, colourful culture and Corkonian wit and traditions. We will take you on a leisurely walk around the compact 800 year old city, where you will experience the smells and sounds of the English Market, stroll the busy lanes of the 18th century Huguenot Quarter and wonder at Burges’s magnificent French Neo-Gothic cathedral. Mindful that a healthy walk generates a good appetite, we will help you discover a variety of places to eat, drink, enjoy live music (ceol agus craic) and enjoy the best entertainment Cork has to offer during your visit. At journey’s end our wish will be that we have lived up to your expectations and that when you return home you will encourage family

It was a real pleasure for our group to have met Bart for a tour of Cork’s history, architecture and culture. What a charming, knowledgeable and witty character this man is, a real credit and ambassador to the city. I was particularly interested in Cork’s medieval history and it’s trading links and Bart was happy to furnish my questions with interesting facts, but also to add in true Irish dry humour along the way which made the whole tour a real pleasure, leaving us all with happy memories of our stay.

At the end of the tour, Bart was more than helpful in suggesting other places we could visit and to ensure we arrived at our next appointment on time. Thanks Bart once again for a fantastic tour, keep up the good work.

Ireland is full of great storytellers and charmers. Bart was just the opposite.

The tour was a bunch of disconnected factoids, many of them irrelevant and wrong - Egypt does not drive on the left, and what it has to do with Cork?

Bart shown the picture of kids picking wooden paving bricks, but not the reason for wooden bricks. The explanation came only after we asked, and it was a great reason. I wish Bart's other random facts were tied to Cork history and way people lived!

The whole group got scalded for not keeping up, and Bart did not wait for small group of 5 people to join him before he started talking. I got accused of recording the talk just because I held the phone in my hand. Not pleasant....

We took 4 walking tours in Ireland - 3 were fantastic, and Bart's was one of the worse we ever took in 30 years of travel.

Bart is personable and does a good tour but his explanations get a bit long winded. We would have preferred a little less information and covering a bit more ground. He was well work the 12 Euros and a very nice person to walk with but we took in one spot for a long time in multiple places and got a bit antsy to move on.

My husband and I took a walking tour of Cork on our first day there. We were a group of six people and Bart memorized our first names and made sure we all felt involved (we're French). Bart has a wonderful sense of humour and an extensive knowledge of the city. He took us to unexpected and interesting places. For instance he took us Inside the historical building of a bank. He gave us tips for our stay and even sang Irish songs for us during this two-hour tour!

On our first day in Cork we decided to book tickets for a walking tour. We were welcomed by the ever so friendly Bart, who made the effort to learn everyone in the groups names and find out how long we were staying for so that he could give us tips on how to best spend the duration our stays, which was very helpful. We covered all of the main tourist spots within central Cork and the 2 hours flew by! Bart knew so much and taught us many interesting facts, along with added humour and personal touches. He even took our photos which are going to be followed up in an email! Thank you so much Bart, we thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and will be taking all of your tips for the rest of our stay in Cork!

We had a great time on our 2,5 h tour with Bart. We learned a lot about Cork while always being excellently entertained. Bart's passion for the city is infectious. The tour featured some of the famous touristy spots (e.g. English Market) as well as other interesting but perhaps not so famous places we would not have found on our own. All in all great fun!

We took this tour on our first morning in Cork and by the end of it we'd got the lie of the land and knew just what we wanted to explore further and what to ignore. Jack was a brilliant guide, and when we mentioned our interest in Rory Gallagher, he made sure we knew where to find the main things of relevance. On top of this, he explained the history of Cork from it's early days and, with the use of a large map, illustrated how the landscape had changed since its early days. Excellent.

While staying at the Hayfield Manor we took a private walking tour with Bart Bambury, a colorful and informative guide who is a walking encyclopedia about his city of Cork. Since our hotel was close to University College Cork, we started our tour on the campus and learned more about the university than a casual visit could permit. We probably wouldn’t have found the Stone Corridor or mud cabin on our own, and would have walked past the George Boole statue without recalling his significance in mathematics.

From UCC we walked toward town center. Bart showed us the medieval city walls of the ancient walled city and took us to Saint Finn Barre’s Cathedral, where he enlightened us on its architecture and statues.

The highlight of our tour was the English Market, where we enjoyed an amazing fish platter and met the owner of the fishmonger market. We enjoyed some dessert and tea, and strolled through the market. My favorite item was buttered eggs, a Cork specialty: freshly laid eggs that are rolled in melted butter. Bart even sang us some Irish ditties before saying goodbye.

I’m sure that each tour is unique. Since our hotel was close to UCC, Bart included it. Other tours may focus more on city center. My only suggestion would be to know in advance more about the tour: its length, some highlights of the tour, and how much food to expect to eat at the market.

Bart was fabulous. He taught me many things I never knew about Cork as well as provided some amazing places to eat throughout the tour. Since I was so busy listening and trying to remember where I was walking, Bart was kind enough to promptly respond to me email requesting the list of restaurants and cafes he'd mentioned. I would 100% recommend this tour and Bart as a guide.
