About
Céad Míle Fáilte A Hundred Thousand Welcomes! Welcome to Cork City Walks. We look forward to meeting you on one of our friendly, informative, leisurely walks around our beautiful and charming city. We encourage interaction and banter as we seek to share with you our love of Cork, its unique history, friendly people, colourful culture and Corkonian wit and traditions. We will take you on a leisurely walk around the compact 800 year old city, where you will experience the smells and sounds of the English Market, stroll the busy lanes of the 18th century Huguenot Quarter and wonder at Burges’s magnificent French Neo-Gothic cathedral. Mindful that a healthy walk generates a good appetite, we will help you discover a variety of places to eat, drink, enjoy live music (ceol agus craic) and enjoy the best entertainment Cork has to offer during your visit. At journey’s end our wish will be that we have lived up to your expectations and that when you return home you will encourage family

Jack is a brilliant guide, funny & informative, plus his restaurant suggestions are spot on. I learned such a lot, and not just about Cork, during this tour. I highly recommend this walk and will book again if I return to Cork.

Our guide, Bart, is a great guy who obviously enjoys his job. However as he said himself he makes it up as he goes along!

His knowledge of the history of Cork is quite comprehensive, but he assumes that we as visitors to his city already possess this knowledge. So the random facts and periods of history are given without any context or chronology. Visitors whose first language was not English found it very difficult to understand him especially when he talked as he walked.

The tour is very leisurely and really only covers the streets around Patrick Street, Crawford Arts Gallery and the English Market. We had to leave after two hours with Bart still in full flow.

Dear S1079GQsallyh, Thank you for review which I am pleased to acknowledge and extend thanks to you for taking time to present your views on a walking tour with me. I appreciate the positivity in some of your remarks and your acknowledgement that my "knowledge of the history of Cork is quite comprehensive" and with respect does allow me, without reference to notes present it ("makes it up") as the walk moves east to west to 'encounter' monastic and medieval Cork. I also must remind you that whenever I had a contribution to make, we stopped and I addressed the group face to face (my training as a teacher!). Regrettably you and partner left the tour prior to its conclusion and my bringing various threads together at Nano Nagle Bridge where I shared the relevant A3 maps and pictures which help bring past and present to an illustrated conclusion. I also need to inform readers of your review that "two hours of Bart in full flow" did include 15/20 minutes without that flow in the English Market where you used our special map, having heard my guidelines on finding interesting stalls and Cork associated culinary delights. I acknowledge your concern for a participant whose first language was not English which is always a special concern for me. You will be glad to know that she and I had a long chat at the end the walk, when she acknowledged how much she had enjoyed the walk and my singing! Thank you again S1079GQsallyh for your review which affords me an opportunity to assess my modus operandi for future walks in the interest of those that might wish to participate. I am also pleased to inform you that you will receive a full refund, mindful that that you and partner did not have as I intended an enjoyable learning experience, for which I am sincerely sorry. Sharing my love and knowledge of Cork with visitors is not a "job" to me. I will strive, despite setbacks, to improve my skill set and do the best I can for those that walk with me. Míle buíochas. Bart

My husband & I were spending 4 days in Glounthaune which is 7 km from Cork City
We joined a group tour at the Visitors Center on St’ Patrick street Bart was our tour guide for 2 1/2 hours

During this time we gained an excellent background of Cork’s history going back to medieval times. Even though we had a large group Bart was able to keep us reigned in & focused on all the information he was giving us as we strolled the many streets

Mixed with humor, singing, & vast historical facts, Bart left us feeling as if Cork was no longer a strange & unknown Irish city
We strongly recommend this tour & ask for Bart

We booked a private walking tour with Cork city walking tours. Our guide was Bart Bambury who took us round Cork, talking about the history and showing us the sights. He explained how Cork was built on a marsh on an island between the two rivers. We visited the English market, amazing place, where we stopped for a cup of tea and sampled some local cheese. Delicious! We saw the medieval town or the remains of it, the cannon buried in the ground, Father Mathew.s statue and the library as well as seeing and hearing about lots of the historic buildings in Cork. I can recommend this tour to understand the history of Cork.

I've been coming to Cork regularly for the past two years, and I thought I had a fairly good knowledge of the city's history. That was until I opted to try something different and go on a Cork City Walk.

It was clear during the tour that Bart is passionate about Cork City. He gave a 3 hour walking tour (we paid for 90 mins) that was not only informative, but also made Cork's history accessible for all - no dry information here. Coming from Bristol myself, Bart was also keen to highlight the link between these two great maritime cities. My good lady, being from Cork herself, was even surprised about what she had learned about her home city.

We had hoped for better weather on the day, but despite this, Bart's wit and endearing anecdotes made us forget about the cold and rain. He even afforded the courtesy of joining us for a drink afterwards - a real gentleman. If this is what you get during bad weather, I'd love to find out what more there would be during the warm summer days.

For anyone wanting something different, I would highly recommend doing this tour. It is a fun way to learn more about Cork's history, even the Corkonians could learn a thing of two.

We recently visited The city of Cork for the day whilst on a cruise around the British Isles. We met Bart, our tour guide at the meeting point. Bart was a very pleasant and engaging guide. The tour was to be 90 minutes long but we were entertained by Bart for three very informative hours. We would recommend this walking tour to others who want to know the history of Cork.

If you really want to get to know Cork, Jack is your man! On the day we arrived in Ireland we scheduled an afternoon tour with Cork City Walking Tours. Jack took us around and shared the history of the city and the history of Ireland all while introducing us to the best sites of modern day Cork. It was completely fascinating. We also took his advice on where to have dinner, Cask, and had a wonderful evening out. I can't say enough positive things about our afternoon with Jack and the wonderful time we had being introduced to this amazing city and country. Book it!

Jack and Bart share the guide duties; we had Jack for our tour. The public tour costs 10 Euros and lasts 2 hours. Jack is extremely informative, enthusiastic, funny and personable. We learned a lot abut the city and tis history while seeing the main downtown sights. My wife and I commissioned Jack for an additional 2 hour private tour in the afternoon that only further increased our understanding of the beautiful city and its history. I recommend this tour to anyone!

We were lucky enough to spend a delightful day walking around the entire city of Cork with a brilliant guide - Bart! Bart paced to tour to our mobility needs without sacrificing a bit of this vibrant city. If you have a question he knows the answer, he'll take you to all the known and a few of the unknown places in the oldest city and true capital of Ireland. I look forward to stopping him for a cuppa on future trips! Book a walking tour with him - you'll be thanking yourself for the rest of the trip!!!

It was a "delightful day" for me also, Tiffany. The company and the 'craic' was as we say 'mighty'. Thank you most sincerely for your kindness and wonderful comments. Yes, my beloved Cork is a "vibrant city" and has been since Fionnbarra came down the Lee to establish his monastery. To be sure Cork has 'unknown places' but finding them out in good company must be the prompt to discover more about our own place. Be assured Tiffany your kind words will put a spring in my step for my next walk " on the banks of my own lovely Lee". Looking forward to that cuppa! Gach beannacht ó Bart.
