Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My son, sister and I, visited Clare Museum on September 29th, 2022. The young man at the front desk had such pride of place for County Clare. It brought the museum experience alive and gave us a historical perspective,as well as, a feel for resilience of the people. We went to most of the places he suggested, had a tour of the Burren, happened upon a Bronze age burial site he had told us about.

I highly recommend the Clare Museum to get an overview and appreciation of the proud history of County Clare and appreciate the unique strength and courage of its people.

Well worth a visit - artifacts from ancient clare - old farming implements -fossils etc. Very well laid out & identified. Aural history sections very well thought out. Over 2 floors & lift available. Spacious & roomy & staff available to answer any questions but really, the displays say it all in themselves.Lovely setting and all free. Can call to the hotel next door for a snack (all the previous grounds of the Sister's Of Mercy convent) where the wooden surrounds are definitely worth looking at in the restaurant.

I really enjoyed a 90 or so minute visit to the Clare Museum today. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and full of information and good cheer.
The Museum is fascinating. It has two floors and goes through Clare's history from prehistoric times, through bronze and iron age and right up to the present.
It has a good section on the viking invasions, early Christians and the famine era, as well as exhibits from the war of independence in the 1920s.
I loved the section on done of Clares' hillfort, dolmen and other historic sites, it gave me great ideas for things to do while in the area.
Loved the eclecticism too, Kevin Sheedy's Everton and Ireland shirts, the ball and medals from the 1914 all Ireland final and most amazingly, two tricolour that were brought to the moon snx presented by NASA.
Fantastic!

We visited the Clare Museum with a class of 6th class students as part of a history programme. John Rattigan was so helpful and provided the students with a valuable experience of seeing some artefacts related to our history topic. The class were very engaged by the talk and really enjoyed it. This was an excellent experience and someplace we would love to visit again. What a great educational experience we have on our doorstep!

We visited the Clare Museum as part of a history project. We had a class of 12 year olds who were researching Clare and the War of Independence. Curator John Rattigan met us and gave us a very interesting talk. John also showed us artefacts and autograph books from the period. The pupils were captivated. We were very warmly welcomed by the Museum staff who were patient and answered all our questions. The children were captivated by the displays which are laid out in a very accessible manner. Clare Museum is a wonderful facility and we will be making a return visit in the near future. Highly recommended.

We had a extra day to spend before the start of our Road Scholar program so we took the bus from the Shannon Airport to Ennis. Just check out Rick Steves Ireland tour guide on how to do this. We toured the Clare Museum and enjoyed it very much. This was our first trip to Ireland and it gave us a good introduction. The staff was friendly and we had an opportunity to talk with one of the local history experts. All in all a very wonderful experience.

This is a free museum so worth a brief visit on a rainy day between showers. Exhibits seem kind of dated in their display. Informative but not exciting. Not much for kids here.

The museum is next to the Temple Gate hotel. The hotel used to be the convent and the museum was the chapel, all part of the same complex.
There is no charge to enter the museum and there are some excellent exhibits from Stone Age man to the more recent history.
The member of staff we met was very helpful, very knowledgeable.

The Clare Museum is a typical small, free to enter, regional museum of the kind found all over the world and ordinarily I would recommend such places to anyone.

Unfortunately we brought short our visit when we heard a male staff member telling two visitors what a shame it was that people from Northern Ireland (us!) were coming down to Southern Ireland intent on 'weakening our DNA'.

I can think of no excuse for this racism, narrow-mindedness and ignorance in what should be a place of learning and information.
