When James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail announced the opening of their 'centrical and commodious premises' on South Street,Elgin, on 24th May 1895 they would be proud to see it still trading today. Stocking around 1000 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, is like entering the Aladdin’s Cave of whisky. Please note that the Delicatessen section of the store is currently closed until further notice.

Amazing afternoon, thank you!

We attended a whisky tasting on Monday 20 September, which provided some absolutely superb whiskies, which we believe will be the highlight of our week long visit to the north of Scotland.
Generally the staff at G&M were superb, but our host, Lois, was a young lady whose expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm is worthy of special mention.
She expertly managed and guided us through an amazing tasting, with humour and experience worthy of someone with many more years of work under her belt.
Well done, Lois, thank you, and all the best to you and the team!

Had a very informative whisky tasting (Taste of Moray) with Lianne today. Can't praise her enough for taking us through the experience in a truly professional manner along with a little banter.
The choices of whisky from the Gordon McPhail collection were superb.
Lianne made the experience for us, as she knows her stuff.
Will be booking again for another tasting with Lianne.

help with empty whisky boxes
May 2021
I wanted some empty whisky boxes to store my small malt collection. I popped into the shop on a rainy Wednesday afternoon on 13 May and an extremely helpful blond lady, who I think was called Amanda? immediately sourced and provided about 4 or 5 boxes for me and helped put them in the boot of my car. Thank you!!

Visited during a trip to Elgin. Happened to be passing as it was opening after being closed due to covid. Has a great range of multiple spirits. As with anywhere some were reasonably priced , others more expensive. Certainly caters for all tastes
Staff themselves seemed friendly.
Would recommend a visit if in the area.

Very Welcoming Visit

Amanda MacDonald gave us a very warm welcome to her department. Whisky, gin and other lovely selections of rare and unusual alcoholic purchases were available.
We were introduced to the Benromach winter gin ‘Red Door’ which was delicious and remained warm in the back of our throats even after leaving the shop.
Amanda explained the background and process of the gin extremely well and then informed us about the gin tour which is available at the Benromach Distillery For only £8 entrance fee.
Thank you Amanda, I’m sure we will have a great time.

We popped in while shopping as we wanted a few different things for the festive period, it suppressing the different ranges of food that this shop sells.

This shop has an amazing selection of whisky from reasonably priced to VERY expensive. Well worth a visit if you have a particular malt whisky that you're after. They also have a good selection of gin and wines

A lovely, old-fashioned shop.

Whereas this shop is justifiably famed for its collection of fine whiskies and other spirits, it’s worth pointing out that they also have a reasonable food cum delicatessen section which is well worth a browse, particularly if you are a bit of a “foodie” like me.

Great selection of whisky and gins if you are that way inclined ! Also a good wine show
Very helpful staff , extremely knowledgable
Did not manage to leave with parting with money for gin and wine - not a surprise
G & M organise tastings so hoping to attend a few in the near future

They really know their Scotch. We had an amazing tasting and learned so much. Staff are knowledgeable and very friendly . Excellent selection and assistance. Highly recommended.
