We stayed in Fort Augustus and quite enjoyed watching the various boats pass through the locks. We also stopped at other locks including Neptune's staircase. Grab a pint, sit down and just enjoy the show.

The Caledonia canal is possible to do in 2-3 days if you rush through. Better use 3-4 and enjoy the scenery. Fort Augustus was for us a highlight. The prettiest part starting here going west.
