The famous Swilcan Bridge on the 18th hole of the Old Course at the Home of Golf. The bridge was originally built over 700 years ago so shepherds could move their flock across the Swilcan Burn which meanders through what is now the 1st and 18th fairways. Today the Swilcan Bridge, with the 'Auld Grey Toun' providing the most beautiful of backdrops, is one of the most iconic settings in golf. So much more than a little stone crossing, the Swilcan Bridge is the history of the game, it's the magic moments, it's felt the footsteps of the true greats.

My husband loved seeing St. Andrews, and was particularly taken with the Swilcan Bridge. Unfortunately, when we visited, the bridge was closed. It was clearly barricaded and marked "Keep Out", but people cheated, as people often do. We photographed it from a distance. We did...More

Whether on the walking tour or not, you can run out between groups of golfers and get a photo taken on the bridge. Just have a friend along to snap the photo.

Walked over from West Sands Beach (Chariots of Fire) on a Sunday morning so the course was closed. Beautiful setting and it only took a few minutes--glad we did it.

Hi Rob. Thanks for getting in touch, we appreciate your feedback. Like you say, a lot of people take pictures on the Swilcan Bridge and not just golfers so the traffic over it is very heavy. The small green frames are there to protect newly...More

For a tiny bridge it has such allure for the golf lover. We were there on a Sunday when the course was closed for play and folks were politely lining up for photos. Beautiful location!
