The famous Swilcan Bridge on the 18th hole of the Old Course at the Home of Golf. The bridge was originally built over 700 years ago so shepherds could move their flock across the Swilcan Burn which meanders through what is now the 1st and 18th fairways. Today the Swilcan Bridge, with the 'Auld Grey Toun' providing the most beautiful of backdrops, is one of the most iconic settings in golf. So much more than a little stone crossing, the Swilcan Bridge is the history of the game, it's the magic moments, it's felt the footsteps of the true greats.

Well I find it amazing you can walk out here and stand on it. No one to stop you no fence. So if in area golf fan or not this bridge is world famous.

It is what it is! An iconic piece of golfing history. You can walk right to it anytime as long as you don't impede golfers playing the 18th.

This is the famous bridge on the 18th fairway on the St Andrews Old Course. There is not much to it. There is public access to the bridge but you have to wait for the golfers to play through.

Over 700 years old - historic bridge that the greats ( Nicklaus, Snead; Ballesteros, Woods, Palmer, Player etc ), have all walked on and stopped and peered over the great landscape of St Andrews - a must for all.

The Old Course is over 600 years old; Swilcan Bridge on the 17th 700 years old. We are walking in history as we cross the fairways. The course (walkable) by the public is amazing in itself. We loved being there. The staff we encountered were...More

regardless of how revered the mystique is of the old course, the Swilcan Bridge is one of those small but significant structures that we have in our world. It is a vista of sporting elegance, grace and history that must be visited, photographed, and most...More

The most famous view in the world. So glad to live not too far away to visit & see the enjoyment of others visiting for the first time. Lovely at any time of year.

When we visited St Andrews on a Sunday, we were told that it was in order for members of the public to walk over the Old Course. We could not resist this opportunity and walked round the 18th Green. It was an iconic moment for...More

We played the Old Course and had to get our Caddy to photograph us on this iconic Stonebridge. Great round of golf in superb October weather

I Think St Andrews would frown about a dog on the course . Wouldn't hurt to ring and ask especially as you only needed to go on The Swilken Bridge .

It is possible to get a photo on the Swilcan Bridge. We would however advise you to be extra careful when entering the course. Please be aware of the golfers playing off the 18th tee as, understandably, priority must be... More
