Just firing up on a pub crawl, and started off here, not a bad spot, pretty quiet, but served its purpose, quite a pretty interior, but staff seemed a little unhappy and dull, maybe they were under pressure, it is amazing how things vary from pub to pub, sometimes quite extremely.

Great centrally located bar. Always busy with a nice friendly atmosphere. Great selection of ales and whiskeys. Well placed location to drop in for a beer and a chat only a stones throw from Princes Street.

This is a beautiful old fashioned pub in a great location just away from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street. I love to visit for a glass of prosecco and to watch all the people coming and going. I've never tried the food but I'm sure I'll get around to it next time!

We have been here before and we came back. It's a great traditional pub with some wonderful old architectural features. It serves a good selection of real ale, mostly Scottish. It has a great friendly atmosphere with restaurant upstairs but we didn't try it as it was fully booked. One of our favourite drinking holes.

We were staying in the city recently and just had to pop into our favourite pub. We last visited a few years ago and were pleased to see that it is just as good as ever. The choice and quality of the cask beers are both still very impressive and the atmosphere is great without TV and intrusive music. What... More

This is the first time I have visited this venue in over two years, it still retains it's original features and ambiance that makes it a quality pub offering a good selection of predominately Scottish real ales and quirky draught continental beers. However the pricing remains very much on the high side and not advisable if on a budget and... More

Great place, perfect location, busy pub but extremely quiet upstairs restaurant. I had the best burger of my life and Grace was a fantastic and adorable waitress. A plus, definitely.

Went to this restaurant as near our hotel. It was very busy both nights but did wait for table on second night. It's sort of "fend for yourself" as far as getting a table. Locals know the drill. We were lucky to get a table upstairs on the balcony. Nice ambience. Pretty casual. Food was straightforward and decent.

If you happen to come across this pub on your travelles. You MUST have the rib-eye steak. OH MY GOD, I've had many steaks in my life and that is in the top 3. It was truly amazing. Only a small restaurant but it's very nice. You can have a really good laugh with Asten our waitress who is a... More

Another lovely old fashioned pub just off Princess Street. The bar looks fantastic with a wonderfully ornate wooden surrounding and the ceiling is also a work of art. The pub has a large selection of real ales and whiskies. Being an Orcadian, I was delighted to see at least two Orkney beers, one of which I sampled. The staff were... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
