Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really nice tour, lots of interesting facts. I think our guide was named Will. He did a great job, even took my kids' long and weird stories in stride. Tour group was smaller because of Covid, and the guide wore a mask, but it was designed to not interfere with his speech, which was nice.

We joined the tour at Greyfriars Bobby, and our tour guide, Alex really made the tour come to life with his jokes and wit. Even though he had been suffering from a sore throat and was on his own with the group, he did a really good job making each fact engaging and interesting. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who either enjoys harry potter or wants to see the sights of the city.

Richard is an enthralling Guide. Lots of interesting stories and looks at places which we may have otherwise missed. With drama, little quizzes and great anecdotes, he is a Master Guide and should be paid accordingly.

Charlie was an amazing guide. He really knew his stuff and right from the start of the tour grabbed our attention and really interacted with the group wonderfully. The tour was just the right length and gave a fascinating insight into how the streets and sights of Edinburgh influenced the crafting of the novels. Lots of fun. Highly recommended.

It was absolutely phenomenal! Charlie was our guide on this tour and I loved every second of it. It was very informative, I learned a lot of things, and he made it truly magical.

He was very lively and absolutely fantastic, made a point to chat to everyone and he made us all smile and laugh.

We did the free Potter walking tour today with Charlie and what a brilliant day out! Charlie was a great story teller and the choice of fun tales was just right. We are Edinburgh locals and not major fans of Harry Potter but came away knowing more about the city and the amazing life story behind Harry Potter. Give it a try - you can earn house points and cast spells for big potheads out there.

Enjoyable tour. Alex our guide had lots of interesting stories about the books, films and the places that may (or may not) have been the inspiration. He was excellent with my enthusiastic mini wizard…Only downside is that the traffic light spell only seems to work in groups.

We really enjoyed the public tour and thought the Head Wizard, Richard, was fantastic as our tour guide. He is super knowledgeable on all things HP and took us to some great places that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. We found the meeting place very easily and the communication was faultless. The public tour is free and operates on a ‘pay what you can’ basis through donations. As huge HP fans, we had big expectations; we would have loved to tour the school grounds (the real life Hogwarts) or JK’s writing locations but sadly these were out of bounds at the time so no fault of the tour operators. Just a suggestion for the future!

What a speller performance from Gemma, our witch guide. It was great to Potter around the city taking in all the amazing Edinburgh sites and learning some great facts and bits about the inspellration behind Harry Potter. I was stupified by all the information. Gemma had a chamber full of potter secrets.

We attended The Potter Trail on Saturday 16th March and had Christine as our guide.

From start to finish it was enthralling and the hour flew past, so much so that we both remarked that we easily could have listened to hours more!

Christine was a superb guide who was a pleasure to listen to, and her passion and knowledge for all things Harry Potter really shines through.

The recommended (but by no means expected) donation of £15-£20 per person is a bargain and I would be surprised if anyone didn't find this to be excellent value for money.

From the Irish couple who used straws as makeshift wands! 😅😂
