A fairly typical Scottish castle ruin with the difference of being 'on the High Street'. The location is amazing, so close to a main road and a bustling harbour. Good number of boards are located for easy access to information. Not a lot to see in terms of artefacts etc.

A nicely kept castle. An interesting walk round was had by all. There's not loads to see though, probably 30/40mins max.

In the centre of Kirkcudbright, so handy if you are visiting the town. There really isn't much to see inside, so unless you have a membership ticket, save you money and take a picture of the outside.

Kirkcudbright itself is a lovely town to visit but we were easily drawn to the castle which is in the centre near to the main car park. We enjoyed our visit to the castle. It may not be the biggest site to visit but it is well laid out, and there are plenty of rooms inside to visit which have... More

Its a nice castle but I was happier that we had English Heritage membership to get us in. It doesnt take long to look around but there are some interesting information plaques. The mini-shop was good and staff were great even helping us really efficiently with directions.

From outside the castle looks huge so when looking at the price of entry it appears like a good deal, however once inside you realise that only the ground floor and 1st floor are still intact. I went with my 5 year old daughter who enjoyed her trip and the information plaques on the wall were good and simply written... More

We were in Kirkcudbright whilst camping nearby and my 11 year old son wanted to go inside and have a look. We paid £14.40 for 2 adults and 2 children and were only inside for around 10 minutes. Its ok but not a lot to see, mostly just empty rooms. The kids loved the Rapunzel at the window with her... More

Large rooms, Maxwell's history in the heart of the city! Laird's spy hole too. Cellar is huge! Little Kelpies are near by too.
