The Stewartry Museum was founded in 1879, and first occupied part of the Kirkcudbright Town Hall. As the collection grew, the present purpose-built museum was planned and opened in 1893. The Museum has an old-world charm and exhibits a wealth of objects relating to the area known as The Stewartry of Kirkcudbrightshire.

Interesting small museum

Helpful staff, even though their emphasis did not go back as far as I would have liked. Great on giving suggestions and referrals. Informative DVD presentation.

Nice lady behind the desk allowed us to bring our little well behaved dog in if we carried her. Spent an interesting time looking at the broad variety of exhibits. Some nice references to the history of the town and plenty of photos lovely little museum. Worth a visit.

Huge selection of artifacts and the staff are very friendly and eager to engage all. It's not 21st century with fancy electronics, it's a good old fashioned collection
