Excellent well kept 18 hole golf course. Greens in great condition. Every hole has a different challenge. Although rather hilly it is well worth the challenge. Scenery is outstanding. Club house welcoming with friendly and helpful staff.

Awesome!!!

What an experience!!! I thoroughly enjoyed playing this ultimate test of golf. Nearly every hole is either uphill or downhill or sloping away or from you. Steep elevation changes on nearly all the holes. Accuracy off the tee is crucial because if you stray off the fairways the rough will punish you by swallowing up your ball, never to be seen again!! I managed to play 11 holes as there had been a lot of rain and the buggy could not access parts of the course. I am an amputee and a very kind man (A fellow amputee) came in to the course especially, to take me around this spectacular and unforgettable golf course on his personal buggy as they don't have buggies here!!

I really appreciated the friendly, thoughtful and helpfulness of all and the gentleman in the starters hut and bar. I didn't catch his name, for all going out of their way to accommodate and enable me to play their magnificent gem of a golf course!!

P.S I managed to get around my 11 holes without losing a ball! I look forward to returning to play this awesome course, hopefully all 18 holes next time. Thanks again guys, see you next time!!

It's golf Jim, but not as we know it...

Having recently produced a European Tour pro (well done Bob MacIntyre), who are we to criticise this course? This young guy's short game must be magic, for we doubt if anyone could hit all 18 greens in one round (my wife says 'year')! James Braid designed many fantastic courses, but it is unlikely that there is another where his imagination was taxed to the same extent: climbs abound, genuinely blind holes and shots aplenty, 'dead zones' when greens are missed...
This course is a wonderful community asset and should be cherished by locals and visitors alike. Lang may yer lum reek!
Oh, and if you're of our vintage take a powered trolley...and make sure you park it on flat(ish) ground!

Good little course, rated 62 from middle tees. Nothing flat on this course, not one hole. Working your trolley (bag cart) will be a good hike, even though the course is 4200 yards. Couldn't decide which were more fun/challenging, par 3 170 downhill 30 yards or par 3 180 that's 40 yards uphill. As long as you can see the top of the flag, hit and hope. I am 18 handicap and hit 85, felt good.

The people (shop staff and members) are most welcoming and just a bunch of fun to chat with. For first time players at Glencruitten, they provided some very helpful advice!

The clubhouse has seen better days, but this is a small town with this public course. Bar was closed but the locker room facilities were clean. The "pro shop" is tiny with few amenities, but it works!

The course is short but TOUGH! There are plenty of ups and downs, and it proved to be most fun. Walking is the only way around, and I sugguest that everyone takes a pully trolley. I carried, and was beat after this hike. The greens are generous. Some placement shots are required. The elevation changes are spectacular (take your camera!). It was just a load of FUN to play this course. It's not a championship course, but it will test you!

Enjoy it! We plan on doing so on our next visit to Oban.

Beautiful setting but not for a golf course

The club pro and members were very welcoming indeed, but the course is the most physically demanding l have ever played. There is hardly a flat lie and if you are not on the fairway you have little chance of finding your ball. I never usually lose a ball but l lost 7 on this course. The hills are very steep and difficult to negotiate with a trolley. You are better off carrying. To make things more difficult a stream crosses many of the fairways. I rarely say that l did not enjoy a game of golf but on this occasion l was glad to get off the course.
Old fashioned club house. No food available.

I golf around 60-70 rounds a year and have a 22 handicap. I'm pretty fit. I liked this course, but I am not sure that everyone would.

It is a full 18 hole course (many in Scotland are 9 holes you play twice).

It's really hilly, and it's not possible to have an electric cart. So you'll be walking carrying your bag or pulling a cart up a lot of steep hills.

There's a LOT of blind shots.. YOu may find that:
- fun
- challenging
- irritating
- really annoying
For me it started as good fun and was annoying pretty quickly.

The rough is much rougher than what you might expect, if you play a lot in North America. I came with 14 balls and by the 15th hole, I had lost all of them and had to head back to the clubhouse.

On other hand, it's really close to downtown Oban and it's pretty affordable. The rental clubs were a dog's breakfast of brands, but worked well. (and cheap).

Overall, I'm glad I went, but it was a workout!!!!

BONUS : everyone plays fast!!!

Please hit "helpful" if appopriate.

Good but different
Jun 2017 • Couples
This golf course is a very different experience. My wife and I, both in our seventies, and still playing to reasonable handicaps { 14 and 19 } turned up on spec and were very warmly welcomed by a member of the club to whom we payed our very reasonable green fees and were invited to tee off whenever we wished. The course was very quiet as I was told it normally is. It was in great condition both fairways and greens but it is extremely hilly, and I really do mean extremely. Quite a few blind shots to contend with. Don't be fooled by its relative shortness as it is a very tough test and plays every inch of its length. Just wait till you get to the 12th hole. Can't believe its a par 4.

Lovely course with super friendly members. Very quiet on the Monday but there is an honesty box in place. Fortunately we were able to get a trolley because carrying would have been a challenge. If you follow the earlier advice to leave some clubs behind make sure you keep whatever you need for your short game! Many par 3 but of such a length at I was also happy with my driver. Greens good although very slow on this day.

Unfortunately no buggies. I was given a battery cart free gratis which was greatly appreciated. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Quirky, lot of climbing but wonderful views. Greens not bad for end of season. An experience.
