Great views

Even though the castle is closed, the walk is still open and accessible, and clearly sign posted. Enter the castle grounds via the main entrance and follow the drive until you cross the bridge. From there follow the blue arrows. It is quite a steep walk but on a good quality path, the views from the top are classic postcard material!

A Must Do when you visit Inveraray, and Free!
Nov 2020
The Castle closes in winter, but access to this walk remains open. A steady gradient, only really steep in a couple of short sections. Well marked , a mostly gravel track which, unless the weather is really wet, does not require special footwear. The few soft/wet small sections can be bypassed with care. The views are stunning, well worth the effort.

Lovely walk to watchtower
Nov 2019
Great walk with stunning views over Loch Fyne and Inveraray. Its a hike up a steep mountain side but there are some decent paths. Take your cameras, because the viewsare well worth the effort put into the climb. This is climbing forest paths and stone paths, so wear appropriate footwear. Dun no Cuaiche Tower is really charming, built by the Dukes of Argyll above their historic seat at Inveraray castle. Several benches at the top to sit down, admire the views and get your breath back. Worth the walk up for this great views . The view is priceless. Enjoy it .

Top notch

There is a lot of construction work going on at the lower end of this path with heavy lorries trundling about. Don't let this put you off. The walk is steepish but easy. And the views at the top are stupendous. Stand in the folly for a view over the castle. Takes a couple of hours at a gentle pace and with 30 mins to gaze from the top. Too good to miss.

Amazing views - so worth the effort
Sep 2020 • Couples
Firstly, I am mid 60’s, over-weight, unfit and have COPD so the time I took to do this walk was a LOT longer than the majority of other reviewers! However, I am quite a determined person and so wanted to do this walk to see the views as it was such a lovely clear day when we were staying a couple of nights in Inveraray.
We parked at the Castle (£4.50 parking but if you go to the Castle cafe you get the £4.50 deducted from the bill).
Signposting was easy to follow, I found it a bit challenging due to the aforementioned. Saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole walk and like all other reviews the views at the top was STUNNING. It was so so so worth the effort. The walk through the forest was stunning and some amazing views once out of the wooded area before even reaching the top.
There were quite a few folk going up, many with dogs, families with young kids also.
During the walk, there were quite a few bits very muddy (there had been quite a bit of rain days prior to us going). I am so glad I didn’t have trainers on, although it is a walk that could easily be done in trainers if there hasn’t been any rain.
Reading the reviews I read many folk took 30 - 45 minutes to go up, I took almost 2 HOURS 🤷‍♀️ although I did stop quite a lot to take photos and enjoy the scenery (any excuse to rest), however only took 50 to come down. I was really really pleased to have made to the top.
Can only say to folk who may be in same or similar shape , health wise etc as myself, if I can do it anyone can........ just remember your inhalers!! Did take a portable nebuliser just in case but I didn’t need it 👍😃👍.
Highly recommend this for the views at top.

Leisurely country walk
Sep 2020
We followed a route shown in an AA guide but found that contractors access had somewhat changed the routing. Nevertheless, the route was extremely well signposted and easy to follow. The views at the top were worth the effort.

Stunning

Despite the Balfour Beatt signage and trucks rumbling a lovely walk. The well marked path leads to an excellent viewpoint of the castle, town and magnificent Loch Fyne.
Well worth the effort whatever the weather.

Well worth it

The walk is lovely and well-marked, and the view from the top is amazing. Definitely worth a look if you have an hour or two to spare. We parked in the free car park in Inverary (near the Co-op) and walked from there.
