Established in 1965, and Aberdeen's original live music bar. This beautifully equipped, state of the art, 200 capacity venue is conveniently located where the harbour meets the city centre, between Union Street and nearby Union Square (where parking only costs £1 between 6pm and 4am). The bar boasts an impressive range of booze and specialises in absinthe, cask ale, cask cider, rum, tiki, and world beers. Live music appears every Friday and Saturday from 9pm-11pm, on an elevated stage. This typically showcasing touring bands with support from local acts. The venue is equipped with a sizeable dance floor and late night DJs on Friday and Saturday from 11pm-3am. The music on offer is of the alternative persuasion with a mix of rock, metal, punk, disco, funk, soul, electronica, and hardcore on offer, all on the same night.

I visit this place just for their perfect coctails. The place is so chill and they do have jukebox so you can listen to muzic you like. Not only for metal fans but also good for different night out. ;)

Great bar opposite Harbour. Met owners Red Macaw called Chilli! So much atmosphere and they have live music regularly. Locals and staff very friendly. When I went to ladies toilet wasn't sure what to expect because bar is very dark, but toilets were amazing. Very plush and even had a fish tank to look at.Will be one of our haunts next... More

Well for those in the the know you will remember The Moorings as a rock bar, well Krakatoa is the same venue with the same cool vibes to suit all beer drinkers with a great selection to suit all tastes. Music from the great jukebox for followers of rock music and of course bikers are always welcome making it a... More

The Moorings as was. Revamped and looking good. Proper dive bar and my favourite in Aberdeen for these reasons. Excellent selection of local, national, continental draft beers, lagers and ciders. The cocktails and rum selection is uber hangover material! Regular varied selection of live music. Relaxed atmosphere and staff. Had some good times and gigs in this establishment!

We came in here after a gig at the Underdog and I had such a great time here. Some of the band we'd been to see that night were propping up the bar too. I didn't have any cocktails but I loved the atmosphere of this place. The toilets were very clean and I liked the fact there were lots... More

The former Moorings Bar has been given a revamp - with an amazing cocktail / tiki menu. I drank something out of a glass shaped like a skull; there's absinthe, and about 40 beers and a few dozen tiki cocktails. But you really come for the live music - Flash the proprietor keeps the flag flying for new bands, great... More

Recently refurbished, this is a great bar. Loads of beers in a friendly rock, indie, outsider dive bar. The staff are excellent. Tiki cocktails are available as well as many, many beers on draft and in bottles. Pinball, juke box and regular weekend bands make a for a great atmosphere. Quite a regular crowd means everything stays relaxed and tension-free.... More

Krakatoa (ex Moorings Bar) is one of my definitive favorite bars in the world. Always a good vibe, and the best jukebox in Aberdeen- possibly in the whole of UK? Now with added tiki flair (compared to the "old" Moorings) with smashing cocktails and neon lights. Expect rock / metal / punk, as well as live shows. The bar is... More
