This museum is free but well worth the requested donation. Access can be snug in the historic stairways but the exhibits are wonderfully presented and the stories told fascinating.

Fantastic little museum in the heart of Aberdeen. Very welcoming staff, and an incredible place, with some extremely interesting historical stories of real people. The atmosphere inside is pretty deep...you can certainly feel the history. It's free to visit and won't take a huge amount...More

Lots of examples of man's inhumanity to man, woman & child. Amazing acts of cruelty not very long past. The building itself is fascinating too.

A very interesting place to visit. Great to learn about the history of Aberdeen. And even better, it's free. Unfortunately there is no disabled access due to the nature of the building.

Brilliant little museum on Union Street next to the court entrance. Is free entry and has loads of artifacts and information regarding the people imprisoned there during its active years as a tolbooth! Lots of windy staircases!

The guy at the reception just gave me a leaflet, and told me to be careful on the staircase... The rest of the staff were uninterested in visitors and one of them was even reading a book and the other one was taking a nap....More

Thank you very much for your comments. Part of The Tolbooth’s attraction is the fact that it is one of Aberdeen’s oldest buildings, and as such it does present some access issues. We do highlight this on our website, which includes photographs of the narrow...More
