I have been in Pentlands so many times that I thought I would be bored by now, but I don't think that could ever happen as there are so many different routes and views to suit all level of fitness, so whether you want to spend a full day out or just a few hours, then the Pentlands are the... More

Great views and lots of walks with various difficulty levels. Very close to the city, so perfect for a little trip away.

The pentlands cover a large area and provide a wide range of leisurely and more strenuous walks both short and full day outings. There are many websites with details of the routes and maps etc so easy to find information to plan your trip. Many of the walks are signposted as well as having good car parking facilities at the... The easiest way to get here from Edinburgh is by bus. Line 4 takes you to Hillend, from where you can do the 4km 'City View' walk. We extended the walk by going up the first row of hills, which gives you an amazing view over the rest of the Pentland Hills. Also, cows. They seems to be pretty uses... More

Only a short drive from Edinburgh town centre and it offers multiple picturesque walks up the hills. The two closest walks to town are moderate in nature and give great views over Edinburgh!

OK this is a bit biased but I love the pentlands (so much so I live here) there are beautiful walks, runs, bikes all over the area, (there is even open water swimming at threpmuir) we are only about 5 miles south of Edinburgh city center so close you can catch a bus :) but in some really beautiful countryside.... We spent one day in the Penland Hills and it was simply beautiful. If you stay in Edinburgh or Glasgow and do not have a chance to see the Highlands you should absolutely go hiking here. If you walk up onto the hills, the view is breathtaking and very similar to what you see in the North of Scotland. There... More

Great place if you'd like a bit of space to walk your dog away from other people and their pets. Turn off the slip road opposite the Shell Garage at Dreghorn Services and you can access multiple different routes.

I love spending a day up here. I usually park at the flotterstone inn end and take whatever path I feel like, there are several different walks depending on your fitness level. In the summer weather I tend to visit here once a week, even if it's to simply walk the path past the 2 reservoirs then back down the... More
