Genealogy Research Success!
Oct 2019
The staff made this a successful day when we researched our family histories and connections in Northen Ireland to tie-in with our family in the US. Christine went above our expectations for the visit with numerous, suggested materials for us to review.

The resources are wonderful. Plan for enough time to pour through it all.

Thank you, thank you Christine & Sarah!

I had a marvelous and extremely fruitful two days researching at the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies --- and it wouldn't have been successful without the help of Christine and Sarah, librarians and archivists (hope those are the right words!) at the Centre. They went out of their way to help me find books, articles, newspapers and more that matched my queries. I can't thank them enough for their help! The Centre is fantastic. So grateful.

A Must If You Are Tracing Irish Roots to America
May 2017 • Couples
The Mellon Centre, which is a branch of the Northern Ireland Library System, based in Belfast, still has an extensive collection of information available. The librarians there are not researchers, but they can provide a wealth of valuable information on how and where to find the information on emigration to America and elsewhere. Persons wishing to track information should plan to spend some time there searching through the stacks which are readily available. There are also family collections in files. Visitors might also be lucky enough to be there when others are searching for similar information. Networking is always a good idea.

A research facility on the grounds of the Ulster Folk Park, focused on Irish emigration and other records. Very helpful, knowledgeable staff.

Learn about life in Ireland.
Oct 2015
This centre is well worth a visit. In the welcome center there are numerous tourist items for sale. There is a cafe attached where one can relax and have a snack or meal. The buildings throughout the Centre are built to resemble an earlier day Ireland. You can see how people lived in another era and how they conducted their business. In addition, the Omagh public library system has a library branch on site. For those working on their genealogy, this library is a good place to visit. Be sure to talk to the library staff to get help searching for your material. Well worth a visit.

Great help!!!
Apr 2016 • Couples
The ladies in this center spent 1/2 day one day and then 1/2 day a second day helping us find information on our ancestors who migrated to America from County Tyrone. They helped us uncover all kinds of information and guided us to many websites that are proving to be invaluable. I would recommend the Mellon Centre for anyone trying to trace their County Tyrone ancestors. It is free, admission charge for the Ulster-American Folk Park is not required, the car park is also free.

A centre of calm in this world of chaos!

This is one of those gems that you stumble across every now and then, when you're least expecting it! You will be greeted warmly by the wonderful staff, from Brian and Paddy, through Christine and Joanne, to the casual ones who I never quite get to know, but who are only too willing to sit and spend time, pointing you in the right direction and content to listen to any amount of ramblings you may throw at them! Time seems to stand still as they listen to your query; the depth of their knowledge is staggering, and the help given is boundless. An establishment not to be overlooked!

so much information, so little time!!
Jul 2015 • Solo
Stopped here for the second time in twelve months (it takes a while to save up the airfare!) to find that Christine and Ann were just as genuinely helpful as last time, due to their unique knowledge and their ability to put their hands on information very quickly. I was tracing family history in the local area and was overcome by the depth of material that is on hand. I could only stay for 3 hours but it was gone in what seems to be an instant. The centre is not only for those with Irish/American migration connections - it is a must stop on any family history trail in Northern Ireland. The adjacent Folk Park is also worth seeing.

This public library is a real find. The staff worked through their lunch break to help with our casual research, and actually made a FIND! Even if you are not researching, stop by for a taste of the Irish roots many are searching for.
