Derry is one of the very few walled cities left. You can walk the full circumference of the old city by walking the walls. Soak up the history of Derry as you walk with Great views over the Bogside .

The city walls are more impressive than I thought. The history of Derry is a long and complicated one, but it's walls remain intact, unlike many other walls I have seen around Europe. Main attraction of Derry.

Well worth a walk around the city walls if in the town, or the local area. gives some good views over to the murals at the bogside, and also near many other local areas of interest, such as museums/cathedrals etc. If shoppings more your thing, then there are shops nearby, and plenty of places to get a bite to eat,... These walls are a must to see with all the history behind them and the views over derry. Go on a guided tour for that extra experience as they add all the history behind the walls that you would not know about.

First of all, there is an app called Walk the Walls. I would suggest getting it. It gives a lot of information about the history. We spent several hours. The Tower Museum is worth the time. There are another historical points as well. Also shopping opportunities and several places to eat. Great city views, too.

The walk around the walls is about a mile with information boards around the circuit. The city has built right up to the walls so views are limited along most of its length.

I live in the City and its always a case of 'you don't appreciate what's on your own doorstep'.That is the case here! My mum, youngest daughter and myself went over to see the various attractions on or around the walls' vicinity for Hallowe'en including light displays and acrobats. However you can go on to the walls at any time... More

Didn't know much about its story at the time when I walked on it until recently, I looked at the city's history and I found the city wall is so important. It is due to the fact that the city wall has never been breached despite a few attacks were attempted, Derry has a nickname of Maiden City. Taking a... More

Out of all the city walls I have seen across the UK and Europe, this has to be one of the best preserved I've seen. We Walked the entire escarpment in a very short amount of time. All intact and perfectly safe. A few steps. One small grade hill. Very easy walk and utterly amazing to see. Really loved it.... More

I had the pleasure of accompanying my american cousins on the tour of these walls with Martin Crossan Tours.Excellent tour and very reasonably priced too. This is a must for any visitor in Derry to hear about the city with the Siege of Derry and also with the "Troubles".Great views across the city and excellent storytelling.
