I don't know why visitors would want to visit a local graveyard, doesn't sound like a great day out. Probably only suitable for friends and family of the deceased. Not sure why it is on TripAdvisor.

The City Cemetery is a constantly evolving living history of Derry from the mid 1800s. I often visit for genealogical purposes and also for photography (photographers should experience the fogs, early morning sun, etc. from its vantage point) and a leisurely stroll through the history of the city. It's location allows for some unique views down into the city. So... More

this cemetery is on a hill above Derry and it is massive and beautiful. A controversial statue lords over the top of the cemetery and there is a Republican plot as well. Many of the victims of Bloody Sunday are buried here and a walk through the stones is sure to reveal some of Derry's history.

This is a very interesting cemetery to visit. Some of the graves are over a 100 years old.Theres lots of history here. Well worth a visit but don't go on a wet windy day as its on a hill and the wind really blows

It has been a cemetery for well over 100 years and the headstones vary from the simple to huge. Interesting paths which wind through the decades and there's a history to be read.

My guides were genealogist cousins who grew up Cityside, so we focused on family graves. They know the monuments and who all is buried where, even if not inscribed on the stones. The site gives a tremendous perspective of the city, which enabled them to point out all the neighborhoods and landmarks.
