The grave yard is reputed to be where Saint Patrick the fabled saint of Ireland lies. This may be the case or not, but for all of that this part of town including the Parish Church is a much more interesting place than the main...More

The cathedral is worth a visit as it is laid out a little differently from other cathedrals in Ireland. The interior is beautiful. Adjacent is a really lovely and very old cemetery which includes the grave of St Patrick. If a bus load of tourists...More

A cathedral built in the 12th century - a beautiful pipe organ - St. Patrick is buried on the hillside outside of the cathedral.

Visited the Cathedral as part of a CIE tour. Well worth the visit. Take the guided tour. You will learn of the history of the Cathedral. Beautiful stain glass windows. If you visit on a Sunday, be respectful of those arriving for the church service.

Lots of beautiful stained glass and history. St. Patrick, St. Columb, and St. Bridig are thought to be buried in the grounds. The church is huge and quite a landmark on top of a hill in Downpatrick.

Probably. Maybe. There is a big marker to the side of the church that says . But the stone was placed there in 1900. The church acknowledges St. Patrick was likely buried beneath the current church grounds, where Celtic monasteries once stood in the 6th...More

We arrived in Downpatrick where St. Patrick is buried. It was Sunday, so everything was closed, and mass was being conducted in the Cathedral (yes, also called St. Patrick’s). We stopped in the visitor’s center where we watched a video about St. Patrick. From there...More

The Cathedral is in a beautiful setting and has a history to tell. We were fortunate enough to hear a lady docent give us a review of the history including St Patrick's influence. There is a grave marker in the church cemetery, but history says...More
