Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During our journey through Northern Ireland, we stumbled upon the Bonamargie Friary, a hidden gem nestled in the picturesque countryside. Driving by, we were immediately drawn to its serene surroundings and decided to make a spontaneous stop to explore.
The Bonamargie Friary holds a significant place in Northern Ireland's history, dating back to the 15th century when it was founded by the Franciscan order. Originally serving as a place of worship, the friary played a vital role in the community for centuries.
The friary boasts well-maintained grounds and pathways, providing a peaceful setting.
Parking at the Bonamargie Friary is limited, with a very small lot available for visitors. Despite this inconvenience, we found the effort to be well worth it.

We visited here during a day trip to Ballycastle, it's a 10/15 minute walk from the beach. It is a ruin but the friary is very well kept. It is very picturesque - definitely worth a visit.

Although in ruins, this friary makes quite a picturesque site, surrounded by the beautiful golf course.

This place is a must see. It is free and you can walk there from town. Google the "black nun" before your visit and go just before sunset. It is an interesting location but much better if you read up a little on it first.

We drove by the entry going to Torr Head from town, then returned to visit and found one of two parking spots already occupied. It's not large and not elaborate, but there is great signage and you learn a lot about the place and what roles it played in walking about. Remarkably peaceful despite proximity to town and the coast road, especially int eh farther reaches of the cemetery.

The friary in ruins is oddly situated in the middle of a golf course. It is truly beautiful and worth seeing. The cemetery has a part where soldiers washed out on the shore during WW1 were found and buried, most of which were unidentified.

Excellent historic site, well kept. Very interesting graveyard includes several graves of Second World War mariners who sadly were washed ashore at Ballycastle. A great tribute to the humanity shown by the local residents of the time.b

Free access, small car park (for about 3 cars) just off the road then walk a short path alongside golf course.
Lovely ruins and amazing old headstones. Worth a stop just for the peace and quiet!

Lovely place to stop for a gentle walk in the sunshine amongst the ruins of the old priory. A lovely peaceful and atmospheric site
