The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed it's doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within it's walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned mans cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged.

Very informative and friendly staff. Our tour guide was lovely, she was open to questions and very knowledgable. The gaol is rich with history. Just be warned, there is a section of the tour that is not suited to sensitive attendees. The gaol is cold. Wrap up tight. The gaol has been renovated but much of the original still remains.... Done the tour of Crumlin road Gaol. Owen was our guide and he was brilliant. He was extremely knowledgeable and informative. The tour lasts for about one hour and fifteen minutes, at the end of the tour there is a coffee shop or a restaurant called cuffs.

Visited this prison on a cold day and this added to the atmosphere of the day . A beautiful old prison with lots of local history. Watch out for the hang man cell and the odd ghost or two .

My partner and I did this tour following recommendations, TripAdvisor reviews and a genuine interest in local history. We booked in for the last tour of the day, at 430pm, for the hour(ish) long tour, seeing the last 20 minutes or so in darkness. This certainly added to the creepy factor of an old gaol!! The tour saw us through... More

Visited today with friends on a weekend trip. Having been to Belfast quite a few times this was the first time I visited the Crumlin. Although bad weather we had a great experience and Eoghan the tour guide was clearly very knowledgable and shared his knowledge in an informative yet fun delivery. Would recommend

Fantastic tour of 'The Crum', our tour guide Brendan was fantastic, a wealth of knowledge off the top of his head and a touch of Belfast humour to go with it he really made the tour interesting. Top tip - wear comfy shoes and warm clothing of it's cold out.

Took the tour of Crumlin Road Gaol as it was a stop on our 'hop on hop off' open top Bus Tour (Also excellent value). We decided to go on the guided tour which lasted just over an hour, as we thought this was the best way to see all of the site and understand the history etc. Our guide... More

Enjoyed the guide through the jail, went to school just over the wall and knew very little of what we were told.
