Overview
More
The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed it's doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within it's walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned mans cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged.

The tour is OK but you don’t really get much out of it really, they don’t mention any particular prisoners other than a few who were hanged at the end and as i had visited the Gaol in Dublin only a few days earlier i...More

An amazing tour that really brought life inside the prison to life, especially when our tour guide revealed he was a 'guest' at the gaol!

A well worth Tour of about an hour, timing it right with the hop on bus is crucial on the busy days or one can end up waiting around. All guides were very informative and well versed. Highly recommend it.

Me and my 15 year old son came on 5th April 2018. Very interesting stories surrounding the jail. Lovely tour guide Hannah took us around. I do however suggest you wrap up warm because it's very cold in there.

Certainly accessible with regard to moving around however it is a sombre environment with the execution cell and gallows open to visit. Also it is very cold in Winter.
