Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We did the Conflicting Stories Tour with two different guides and it was absolutely brilliant!

We started off with Brendan on the republican/catholic side. He was very passionate about the topic and shared lots of historic details. He personally experienced the Troubles as a member of the IRA and was very passionate about the topic. He told us a lot about Irish history and we got a first hand account of what it must have felt like for Catholics living in Belfast in the past.

We spent the other half of the tour with Jake, a loyalist who fought for the Protestants during the Troubles. He shared lots of memories and personal experiences with us and provided details on many of the historic events. He also shared his personal opinion on many current and past happenings which was very interesting.

They were both excellent guides with extremely different personalities, stories and points of view. It was an amazing experience that you will never get from any history books.

This tour goes down as one of the best I've done in my entire life. The nature of it also brought some equally interested and great folk into the mix. Our tour guide Brendan covered all bases, it was the most comprehensive political/historical tour in which I've participated, replete with so much to learn. When it comes from one's lived in, personal and visceral experience; it's a gift to have that shared generously. We learn so much in this respect. If I was staying in Belfast longer, I'd do the tour again, as to go over anything I may have missed. This tour (along with a several other things) has ensured Belfast, as a city and its people, like Brendan, will always take up significant real estate in both my heart and mind.

We live in a time where we engage with others and material on such a superficial level. This was the antithesis to that. So real. Thank you Brendan!

For those who are not used to the cold, such as us antipodeans, I encourage you to rug up with beanies and scarves. The wind was intense and body temperature dropped quickly when we had stopped to engage with a particular landmark and listen to our tour guide talk.

Rated it a 4 only because I am a senior and not in great shape for the very large area covered. Otherwise guide Brandon provided over 3 hours of rich and authentic material, as an Irish Republican, who grew up during The Conflict. As a student of The Conflict, I couldn’t have asked for more in sights, sounds, memorials, murals, stories, emotion, passion and history. I would highly recommend this tour and all of its telling for a much better understanding of the past, present and future for Irish Republicanism.

For people interested in politics, it is a very interesting and poignant experience. Through the two personally affected leaders on both sides of the conflict, one experiences the situation of that time first-hand. On this basis, I was able to make up my own mind. Highly recommended! Thanks to Paul for the very empathetic leadership of the group.

Excellent tours to lear about the history of this region and to get the perspective of guides, who experienced the violence first-hand, as former fighters and victims in this conflict. Many, many thanks to my outstanding guide, Paul, who, with his passion and humour and friendly, humane approach, created an unforgettable experience.

We did the Conflicting Stories Walking Tour. What an outstanding experience. We felt very lucky to spend time with Paul, our terrific guide on the Republican side, who gave us such personal insight. And Jake on the Nationalist side was also really eye-opening. I found myself thinking that 20 years from now, tourists won't have the benefit of hearing directly from the people involved with and impacted by The Troubles, and we were privileged to have this opportunity. I think this is a must-do tour if you are going to Belfast.

Awesome tour! I thought I knew quite a bit on the Troubles but taking the walking tour with Paul (Chico), an ex-political prisoner and IRA combatant, I realized reading only covers so much. His perspective shed real light on the experience. Trip is long (over 3hrs) but so interesting. Paul gave us remarkable insights and allowed plenty of time for pics. The wee pint of Guiness at the end was a nice touch!
