Visited the Murals of West Belfast late in the evening, on a cold and windy day, so maybe that made it even more heart-wrenching. As you walk along the streets you might come across residents who will volunarily stop and tell you stories about the past or guide you towards other murals.

Lots of people opt to go on an organised tour of the murals - either on foot or in a taxi - but since it would have worked out quite expensive for us to do that as just a couple, we decided to go it alone. We got a map and a few tips from the VisitBelfast tourist office in... More

We were on a bus as we drove through looking at the murals. Wish we could have spent more time and had a local explain some of the murals as we did in Derry. It is amazing how recent this history is.

We were amazed at the murals in Belfast and Derry. Our guide told us so much about the history and suffering. It is important to have a good guide to explain the religious conflict between the north and south. To stand there and see where all the fighting took place was emotional. Both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland... More

We walked around for ages looking at these beautiful pieces of art, some may disagree with this but truly that's what they are. They tell the stories of proud men fighting for the beliefs. It feels a bit weird as an outsider wandering around people's homes taking photos but they don't seem to mind. This really is a must see... More

One of the most heart wrenching parts of our entire trip to Ireland. Make sure you have a guide or at least good literature to accompany you that will spell out the historical significance. So much pain in this city. i am happy to see that it is in the past but we cannot forget what happened.

Seen these on the TV, but very emotional when you see them for real. That and the evidence of high fencing and metal gates makes you appreciate what the Irish people had to live with. Ne c etc really understood the background to these until coming to visit here.

These are all over the place in Belfast. The tour can be very informational and interesting. The history of Northern Ireland is painful and the murals call that out

The murals in the Falls are truly inspiring . they will make you think and cry. they depict the troubles and the murders on Bloody Sunday. Make you say a prayer for peace. Did not like the murals on the Shankill side. Depict a hatred for the minority Catholics. Hoping for peace!

As a local I was interested to learn what tour guides, bus guides, taxi drivers, told tourists about our city's history. While they are informative, by no stretch of the imagination are thy unbiased. I am not sure that it is even possible for anyone brought up in Belfast to shrug off their living history. Take the tours, remember that... More
