Visited briefly during an organised tour. Like the Falls Road, Shankill Road is steeped in the history of the troubles documented through the countless memorials and murals that seem to stretch on almost indefinitely. The area is a busy vibrant community which somehow seems to feel at odds with the environment. Another must visit if in Belfast but take a... More

Whatever religion you will be moved by what now seams like senseless violence but back in the day was oh so real. The murals depict the horrors of what occurred and sit amongst a normal bustling street life. There is an information center but we traveled along the Shankill road in an open top bus listening to the commentary.

We walked down from the Woodvale area through the Shankill to the city centre. A very interesting walk as there are murals ,flags, plaques and memorials scattered the length of the road commemorating victims of the troubles ,of the men who died in the First World War and of the strong ties this area has to the UK . Plenty of... More

The open top bus tour is a great way to see around the city and hear about the history and relevance of various parts of the city.

The tour bus does an amazing job taking you to all corners of the city and it is great that everyone can go anywhere and everywhere and see all the sights we have only heard about.

Do not let the past put you off of this area. For anyone interested in recent history and/or politics this is a must. Having done the bus tour on the Friday, I decided to go for a wander on my own on the Monday having walked the Falls Road, then the Belfast Peace wall I walked down the Shankill Road,... More

We were driven around this Area with a friend of ours who lives here-Heard a lot about events on this Road in the Past and was fascinated with the Murals dotted around.

Clean area, proudly british, plenty to see here, with lots of history/murals etc. Friendly locals will make you feel at home (unless maybe you're a nationalist)

Lovely murals but so sad that the city is still divided-which I did not know until recent visit. Worth a visit

I visited the shankill road as part of the hop on hop off bus in Belfast. The road itself is in a relatively deprived area on the outskirts of Belfast and is similar to any other deprived area in the UK apart from the loyalist artwork and flags adorning many of the shops and businesses around the area. The area... More
